I dont know what type of L-lysine I should get.. gel form,powder,or pill? which one is better and how much do I give Gremlin he is 15 weeks?

My 18week old kitten uses a liquid one in a squeeze tube like toothpaste. The recommended dosage for kittens under 6 months is 1/8 teaspoon, so a pea sized drop of it. She likes the taste and will eat it off her food!

Yes! I too have a kitten (Lily) that's been sick since we got her and the vet put her on antibiotics with a probiotic and L-lysine, I believe it has made the difference in her recovery. Lily is now off the antibiotic and on the mend! I will continue with both probiotic and l-lysine for an unforeseen time to come as it has really helped her. She's 18weeks now but was coughing at 14weeks when we received her. We've made 4 vet visits so far and one more scheduled for this week so I get where you're at! Hugs for Sparti! And a fast recovery!

@Jrs4 that's great to know your vet is on board with the proper moves to get your baby better.

L-Lysine should be used every single day and the dosage doubled when kitty is ill.

@GoldHazel
Lily has been off the antibiotic now for 4 days and I'm worried because her belly seems bigger to me than it was before. She has only coughed once, but now I'm concerned especially once I googled this, I have a bet appt on Thursday but I'm thinking maybe take her in sooner. I'm gonna beef up the L-lysine in the mean time too.

@Jrs4 yes, please take her in before. Let us know what the vet says. Her big belly seems bigger than after eating a big meal? If so, stop the L-Lysine and bring her to the vet.

@GoldHazel
It's similar to a big meal. She is quite a piggy too, I'm hoping she maybe needs a good poop? Yes I'll contact the vet sooner.

@Jrs4 , let us know if you get Lily in sooner for a vet check-
i would also take a picture of her belly today and tomorrow and see if you have one from ealeier in the week for a comparison to show your vet with -trained eye .
My vet likes videos and pics .

Just keep " googling " in persepctive . It is a useful tool at times but always seek your vets advice -
My own example - my Toby had symptoms that googling could have been a number of things . turns out to be seasonal allergies .

Keep us updated often -
Head smooches to Lily
She is adorable!

@Yoda mom , Lily is doing great! I think I panicked a bit because of how she started off being a bit sick. The vet thinks she's improving and we're now on the right track! We are just keeping a good eye on her! So much worry

@Suki regular dose of L-Lysine given twice a day (on top of canned food for breakfast and on top of canned food for dinner), every single day. When sneezing, runny nose, eye issues and just URI's in general, the dose is doubled until they feel all better.

my vet recommended Enisyl-F Lysine Treats for Cats and they LOVE it!
I just follow instructions on the pack and give them up to 6 per day (sometimes less, few times more when I decided they are sneezing too much and it was cold..)

Would Amy vet have this treat? I hope so by this Wednesday I find no where else go

There has been a lot of evidence-based scientific research lately that raised doubts about lysine as an effective treatment for feline herpes, viral upper respiratory infections or feline immune system boosting. And since 2010, The Merck Veterinary Manual has stopped endorsing lysine therapy in feline herpesvirus cases.

I thought it should be mentioned here since everyone seems to be raving about it.

Is this something that you give every day as a preventative or something? I don't give this to Lucy so am wondering if it's something I should start.

Hi! I am glad Lily is better! I have a similar situation with Ra, but the vet didn't think L-lysine was good for animals and only gave me the probiotics. The problem comes when after one day of giving him the pro-kolin, he started with a massive diarrhea and I had to swapped him to a bland diet and I stopped the probiotic. Ra seems better now, at least he's eating and wondering around the house although his stools are still quite runny...
Shall I go back to probiotics?

Sorry your going through that! I had my girl on both probiotics and l-lysine along with the medications she was taking from the vet. I found it helpful in our situation and I gave it twice a day. I don’t use L-Lysine all the time now as it can upset her tummy too, so I give it once in a while now as a booster but always give her probiotics still twice a day.

Thanks for answering so quick! Do you give her the probiotics when she has upset tummy too? Ra is on a bland diet and I have stopped giving him the probiotics... not sure that's a good idea though.
