Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Aww thank you so much! And so happy to hear your update as well! Let's hope both our babies keep fighting and doing well. She's been so cuddly and loving our attention. Its been so nice xx

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

I so hope it works for her too! At least for now the vets are genuinely surprised she's doing so well, so quickly and on a relatively low dose of prednisolone. She only gets 2.5mg morning and 2.5mg evening. Can I ask what food you put your bengal on? We've heard about the Royal Canin...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Hi!! We have some updates...prednisone has made a huge difference to Umami. She massively improved in 1 week, and we're almost up to the 2 week mark and I'd say she's very close to being normal. It's incredible. Her follow up ultrasound showed her lymph nodes to be every so slightly smaller...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

@JessicaRosexo oh I'm so sorry to hear about Ozzie. That's scary with his lungs filling up. So very unfair for Ozzie and Umami. Sweet things do not deserve it at all. Likewise I take so much comfort from this community and knowing that no matter what, they are behind us. Id say you have it...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Hey! So sorry for not updating - I'm spread thin between Umami and my 9 month old. Umami was in a very bad way Friday night. Her blood wasn't circulating properly and she could barely even lift her head. I doubted she would make it through the weekend, so we called her vet to make sure she...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Hi all. Sorry for my delay in updating. We took Umami to a specialised cat clinic recommended to us by the vet hospital. There she had the full works once again, with a more detailed ultrasound. They found an alarming amount of enlarged lymph nodes around her stomach, and sent off a biopsy. We...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

She has shown improvement, maybe gone backwards a little today, but improved still in my opinion. Last night she moved from the couch to our bedroom and jumped on the bed so she could cuddle with us. It was a huge moment. Today she hasn't moved much unfortunately, but we will see how she is...

Im so sorry to hear this. My condolences! I desperately hope it isn't FIP also.

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Thank you! We're trying our absolute best not to lose hope, and we're reading up and getting ourselves as informed as possible. Her Tuesday check up would now be with her usual vet, to discuss these results. However going to the University hospital is still on our minds. We absolutely want their...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Hi everyone. An update with some hard news for us - Umami has come back positive with antibodies to corona virus. We still need to check in with the vet on Tuesday after the long weekend and discuss further, however she suspects its FIP (the dry version). Not at all the news we were hoping for...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Yes I imagine it's excruciating! The lactulose has switched her over to now having diarrhoea, which we are watching closely. It still pains her to squeeze even that out, but at least she can do it. We have suppositories provided by the vet on hand should we need it, and we'll work on getting her...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

She's been at both our local vet and the University hospital, though we've been researching vets in our city that we can try for 3rd and 4th opinions!

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Ok, so chatted with our vet - her xrays do not currently indicate megacolon, however she is keeping an eye on it as it can certainly occur with the chronic constipation. Her suspicion now is Triaditis (which would play into the IBD suggestion). So she hopes an anti inflammatory would help...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

@Toa and Ross Thank you so much <3 @Jeanhill72 We're really hoping for this to be the case! The vet has already doubted her UTI suspicion and has changed her antibiotic. However the antibiotic will still work against a UTI, it's just more broad spectrum. @Yoda mom We've switched to giving her...

Getting desperate - very ill cat with no clear reason why

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a while, as our beloved Umami (almost 2 years old) has enjoyed good health for the past 9 months. She came from an awful breeder and had chronic health problems for about a year, which ultimately ended after long term doxycycline to treat suspected mycoplasma (a...

    Ongoing issues

Hi there! Umami has been doing great! She is no longer on any medication. Her eyes seem good, and she only coughs very infrequently and generally after eating too fast. Yay! We're even in the process of finding a new family member and friend for Umami. Happy times! :)

Coughing , Possible Asthma , Doxycycline Pill? Videos included

Hello :) It's been a bit crazy for us here - Aila has colic so we've had some marathon 11 hour crying fits. It's tough work! Umami seems very well though - she finally finished her 1 month course of doxy, and a few days back we sorted out her water and food bowls to be elevated. We haven't heard...

Hey! Thank you so much for the information on asthma! I was wondering - did you see immediate improvements on the medication, or did it take some time? Umami was taking the oral prednisolone for a 1 month course and her symptoms worsened on the full dose but then got better when we moved onto...

Certainly didn't think you were implying that Umami is any less of a priority! Sorry if it came across that way :) Human babies certainly are not cheap! We're going through nappies at a ridiculous rate!! At least the baby's health care is free in this country. Phew :) We have been finishing all...

Coughing , Possible Asthma , Doxycycline Pill? Videos included

Hey! We certainly did show these videos to the vet - even though they are two different coughs/sneezes, she just said they were both asthma. Up until recently that vet has been great, but the last 2 visits were not so. We took Umami in for the lung xrays and when they showed a tiny grey spot on...

Coughing , Possible Asthma , Doxycycline Pill? Videos included

Thank you so much for your input! Perhaps there really is something to the cough occurring after drinking water - I had no idea cats did a similar thing. We're definitely going to try and slow down her drinking and elevate up the food and water bowls like others suggested. Umami is just like...

Thank you - we will definitely bring these up with the new vet. I really appreciate all of the help and advice!

This is what I believe to be her reverse sneezing, rather than the other one. I have only ever seen her do this twice in her life however. Whereas the other cough is a daily/every other day occurrence.
