Hello all! I am a new owner of a beautiful naked baby boy. He came from Louisiana. IT was love at first sight! I have some real concerns that could be life changing for my Chilly Willy. I was told his eye was scratched out by a litter mate, so he only has one eye. He also has a congenital leg issue which the vet stated could be a luxating patella. This will need surgery, but currently he doesn't appear to be in any pain and runs and climbs like a champ. He also is able to see just fine. The vet also thought he could feel a hardening of his liver, which could describe why he is so small. He is the runt of the litter, but scarfs down his food so the concern is he may have a metabolic disorder.

Can anyone give me any words of advice? I adopted him, I don't feel like I've been cheated by his previous owner because she was honest with me ( I think) and did not charge me anything to adopt him. I just pause for his plane ticket.

My fear is that I will continue to fall in love, so will my daughter and then he will need to be put to sleep. He's had all his shots including his rabies.

Please help!

Welcome to The Lair. I am happy the previous owner was upfront about the issues. Maybe you can ask them for vet records so you see everything and do not have those doubts going through your mind.

As far as falling more in love and being heartbroken, unfortunately this happens to all Sphynx owners. Whether you have a baby a day or 15 + years, it will never feel long enough. Just love your baby and give them the best life. They know nothing but the present and it sounds like your baby is happy. So enjoy your time and don't let the negative thoughts take away from this amazing experience.

BTW...happy you jumped right in and started posting. It is an amazing place with great information as well as a supportive community.

@Chilly Willy, Welcome!

Thank you for opening your hearts and home to this adorable boy!what is his name?
What a purrfect Christmas to share together..
I can't wait for the pics and your journey with him here on the lair-
Every day is a gift .. Enjoy each moment-
They touch our hearts and we are never the same.. A day or years together- we wouldn't want it any other way-

Enjoy your baby and the lair
Give him lots of Xmas kisses from me and my zoo
He is just so darn cute! Love his coloring! What a precious face! Looks like he is full of spunk :)

Years ago I gave my heart to a bengal kitty who was very tiny , the runt of a litter, with a luxating patella. His legs were like sticks with no real rounded paws-In his case , also in breed :(
Well, Bailey baby cat lived a full active life with no surgeries!

Your vet may give you instructions for home care for your babies knee and eye.
My Bailey even ran like a cheetah cat and the knee never became an issue-
He was pretty darn healthy all his life despite the challenges he was born into-

Enjoy your family and your new baby boy! Merry Sphynxmas :)

Welcome. Great to see you here.

I'm convinced that animals, especially cats, quickly adapt to any physical limitations that befall them. Unlike humans, they have no emotional and mental anguish around such consequences. They deal. Some animals, yes, do get depressed, but eventually they adapt beautifully. Your baby, young and full of life, sounds ready to embrace his new home regardless of his perceived limitations.

It delights me that the breeder was up front with you and that you've taken him into your home. It's beautiful.

Enjoy each and every day because these little nakeds can teach us so much.

And happy holidays.

I get where you're coming from, but right now he is fine, so my only advice is take it one day at a time. Another example, my cats are healthy today, but tomorrow who knows. You have a really happy and well adjusted kitten there who doesn't even know he's any different.

Sometimes we (people) try to think of all the things that could happen and we end overwhelming ourselves. This is why I say just to take things one day at a time.

Welcome to sphynxlair, good to have you. He is a handsome little gentleman.
I can see from the pics he does have a issue with his eye.
But, I would get a second opinion on all issues. But, if second Vet
gives the same results or not. He will have the best love and home
for however long.

@Chilly Willy Welcome to the Lair and I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! I will be honest and say I know it is hard to let yourself fall in love with a naked knowing there maybe issues but every day you have with them. I have adopted two of my Sphynx (I have 4). My sweet baby Violet was a 11yr old Sphynx that was VERY over weight. We have taken care of the weight issue and know that her carrying all that weight around for so long was hard on her internally. She is now 7lbs and sleeps most of the day, poops where ever she wants (usually on a wee wee pad in the master bath). She is so sweet and I love her to bits yet I knew going in I would only have a few years to be her Mommy it would all be worth it. You will have ups and downs but it will all be worth it in the end. Violet is now 13yrs.

NinaGato, he is also very scrunched up into a ball, which makes him look like he has gained some weight! I just noticed that, lol. :) he is very content, right up against us for sure!

Congratulations. What a precious "little hunk"! I'm hoping your boy easily surmounts any health issues that might currently be presenting. That said, if he does need end up needing special care he is lucky to have such a loving, and concerned home. He will continue to bring you boundless joy, love, and quirky over-the-top cuteness.

Congrats and welcome! He is adorable!!! :)
I noticed that you adopted him from a woman in Louisiana. I happen to be from Louisiana and adopted my baby from a lady in louisiana about 3 months ago. I wonder if we adopted from the same person.
