A Broken Leg

Well, Ortus has a broken leg
We're not certain but the cat tree was over so maybe that fell on him? Poor little guy. His next x ray is in 4 weeks and hopefully it will be healed enough by then for the cast and cone to come off. He's confined to a pen and his little meows are so sad when he's in there. Ortus is one hell of an active climb-everything, jump-on-top-of-the-fridge from-the-floor kind of cat (unlike his couch potato brother) this is gonna be a loooong 4 weeks. Oh and the x rays are getting sent to a specialist to see if he needs surgery but vet says she thinks thats unlikely, but sent them just to be sure.

Anyone been through a broken bone? How long did it take to heal and does the kitty jail get easier for them?

Oh no, poor Ortus! Can imagine that the next few weeks will feel like an eternity Sounds fairly certain he won't need surgery at least, which is a relief! Hoping it heals well and that he won't get too stir crazy... Tagging @QuillsMom as she knows all about this. Keep us posted on how things progress

Poor both of you. The only thing I warn of is irritation from the cone. You will have to take it off and let his skin breathe and keep it clean. Glad to hear he needs no surgery. Hoping to hear that his healing is going well in further updates

My baby Quill had an accident and landed badly this morning. She’s been to the vet and had x-rays; she’s fractured her right back leg at the growth plate. Shes been giving pain meds and she’s scheduled for surgery Wednesday morning. I’m absolutely sick to my stomach with worry. I nearly passed...

Thanks for the thread, I went looking for it when Cinafina tagged Quillsmom and read quickly through the whole thread. Great info I'll probably go back and get a better look at it in a bit. So far I've set up the soft pen we have, and I just went to the pet store and found a tube and got a big cardboard box. I'm rigging the tube up so it goes out one of the doors of the pen and into the box where I'll set up the litter so he doesn't have to have litter next to his bed. I'll post a pic when it's done!

heres the enclosure I set up - the pen we already had for camping or whatever else, and I went out and bought a cat tube and found a cardboard box. The litter box is in there and he has no issue to crawl through the tube. (albeit a little gimpy)

At first he attacked the box trying to escape, seeing it as a weak spot in his prison cell but we moved some heavy items around to hold it in place. He can be out under supervision but this is for when we're gone. The bed is set up on the floor so we can sleep next to him. One problem is that Aether has started pooping beside the box even though he still has the normal one to use.

Still 10 days left before follow up x rays, which involves sedation and always makes me nervous.

Oh and he has mastered the three legged run! Holds the cast up and giver er haha

Thanks for checking in! Im coming up to exams so its a bit of a hectic time. But he's doing well so far as we can tell! The splint slips more often than we'd like cuz he's always flicking his arm but overall everything is going okay

Paws crossed for a good outcome with no surgery. It sure feels like an eternity when they are at crate rest. Yoda Mom called it that and I am trying to imprint upon myself that it is not jail but a healing test. My Paka is just first trying to get out and it’s almost a month. She was cleared to walk 7 feet to the food bowl with her sisters yesterday for two times a day. Healing will come for Ortus. As heartbreaking as it is, it is good he feels well enough to try to find freedom. A lot of hugging and sitting with him on your lap helps both of you. I feel your pain and send healing vibes. Hang tough.
