Hi all! It’s been years since I’ve been active on the forum since getting my girlie as a kitten.
My bf and I just got our house and decided it was a good time to add a kitten now that we have a permanent home base and aren’t moving lease after lease.
I have no worries what so ever about Ting (previously Ori—funny how nicknames can become their new names ) getting along with the new kitten. She’s so easy going, friendly and curious. She met my parents outdoor cats through her playpen while visiting and she was all purrs and slow blinks…no hesitation, fear or growling. She gets along fine with strange dogs that come over when my friends dogs would tag along when we hang out.
What I AM stressing out about tho is how to do the whole kitten thing all over again with an existing cat…as far as feeding, my girl has a scoop of dry food morning and night that she snacks on over a few hours, and a couple spoons of wet food mixed with water mid day to make sure she is getting enough water, so there is usually something always out to eat. As far as the kitten, I obviously don’t want him/her to eat Tings food and Ting eating their food…the thought of having kitty diarrhea all over or them not eating enough since I can’t free feed is stressing me out already! What’s the best way to go about this?
And as far as litter boxes…I plan on having 2-3, then get a litter robot when the kitten is bigger. But since the kitty will be acclimating in our guest room which is upstairs s/he will be used to having the litter box on the upper level of the house. Currently the litter box is in the basement laundry room where I will eventually want all of them to be. Would it be too much and too confusing to move it to the basement after he is out of the guest room? I also have 2 cat poop loving dogs so that makes things a little harder.
I go next week to meet the 2 available kittens and make my pick! Both a male and a female, and from the sounds of their personalities I think I’m leaning towards the female since she’s more outgoing and the male is a little more reserved.
Ting is a female, would it be a problem getting another female? Or would a male friend be a better choice? I love the markings and personality description of the female but I obviously want a good fit for our family and both are adorable so I’d be happy with either. What are you experiences with 2 female cat households?
