Hello All,

I am about to pick up my new baby… 3 year old whose owners can’t keep for several reasons. Anyways, I have read that you should introduce them to your home by letting them only into one room at a time. The only issue is that I live in a loft style condo..,ie.. no “rooms” and one small bathroom. Any recommendations on best practices for introducing my new baby to his new home.

Thanks!

@Jacquiw7170 , welcome to the lair family. so glad you joined us.

do you have other pets? if so, I would quarantine to a bathroom? and schedule a wellness check. I have all adoptees.
i set up the small bathroom as kitty room , litter box, blankies, even put in a cat tree. it was a little tight for a week but made it work.

it took just a few days for my one to come out and explore, Batman took a little longer. he also did not eat right away . I spent alot of time sitting on the floor or toilet lid talking with them, and playing with them.

I allow free roam at comfort level while keeping door open in case kitty wants to retreat to safe haven while transitioning. kitty proof for life, they are busy buddies .
their previous owners gave me their cat tree, toys, blankies they were familiar with along with same food and litter for easier transition. I also used the same style litter box familiar with (later can transitions food etc slowly)

members will surely chime in.

look forward to updates pics and tales! we are here for you

Ivan is home and doing well. Picked him up a bit earlier than expected and didn’t see your post right away. He is hanging out downstairs mostly. He has not ventured up stairs yet. Spent most of last night under the couch. I went down stairs about 2am and saw him nibbling then we cuddled in the couch for several hours.

He needs a bath. Previous owner was unable to give him the bathing he needs so he has quite a few black heads. My thoughts are to wait a few days to let him settle in and then get him all cleaned up.

Previous owner gave me some of the renewed pet stuff… basically everything but the shampoo, so I have the Avenida baby soap I am going to try. That’s what the previous owner used.
Any advice on removing his blackheads? I have some of the renewed black head remover. Just not sure if I should wash him then apply the black head stuff or…?
Also, should I put a little coconut oil on him after his bath? I have read mixed reviews. Should I bathe him once a week? Seems like there are mixed thoughts on this as well. I am very open to suggestions.

@Jacquiw7170 happy Ivan gotcha! welcome home adorable Ivan. I have all adoptees. I waited a week before "spa day" until settled in.

Ivan certainly is settling in quickly.. precious!
for blackheads on chins, some members use witch hazel
I personally no longer use coconut oil as it can be known to clog pores.
bathing, some do weekly., some can go longer. note overbathing can cause skin issues. you will find a routine that works best for Ivan.
I can go a long time between full bath spa days using trizultra w/keto on cotton swissper rectangles for twice a week wipe downs. I use it everywhere except on face (face I use warm cotton wash cloth).

I like the trizultra w/keto as it is dual purpose, can be used on skin and I also use as a biweekly wipe out ears wetting swissper cotton rounds and brand name qtips. in the beginning, I wore a little head lamp to see in the ear nooks and crannies. My vet got me hooked on trizultra w/keto almost 20 yrs ago. II use it to wipe nail beds too. they tolerate it well as it nearly unscented to my nose. they tolerate it better for earcleaning too compared to scented ear cleaners.
for shampoos, I dont have experience with the renewed line. I am using up the rest of my hylyt shampoo ( a loong time fav here on site but manufacture told me "temporarily " discontinued. I posted a thread about and members kindly chimed in with shampoos they now use.

melt my heart, Ivan is ssooo cute! struck gold in your heart and home. I have all adult adoptees and they are as cuddly and bonded as if I had them as kittens

on a side note, I will share several of us have darker sphynx and they do get normal pigmentation as they get older. my batman (13 yrs old now) and Toby Love, (12 yrs old now) have the normal dark sphynx pigmentation changes. no matter what product I use the pigmentation spots stay.
they started getting normal pigmentation spots I noticed at around age 3 -4 yrs old.

biggest hugs n head smooches! happiest adorable Ivan gotcha. dont hesitate to ask questions, we are here for you

@Jacquiw7170 , sharing : Shampoo ? **since hylyt shampoo temporarily discontinued**
