So at last we have our Sphynx family member, and already I have some questions! He is wonderfully affectionate, seems a bit hairer than what I expected though. He goes by Henslee, but I'm thinking we will change this. It is not our style, and I don't think it fits him. We are so excited to finally have our bald kitty, he is fantastic already!

I know this has been asked before, but I am still confused about it:

He is 2 years old, and has brown stains on his teeth. Is there a way to remove these stains?

Also, he seems to hate being groomed, and with this breed grooming is a MUST. Any idea how to get him used to his new home AND being groomed? I don't want to stress him out more than he has to be while he is adjusting.

Pictures in case you are curious. He was the one we found on Hoobly. =] He needed to be rehomed because he does not get along with other cats apparently.

He is not neutered yet, but will be soon. I never knew cats had such ginormous man bits. xD

You need to fatten him up.
He is to thin.
You can try brushing his teeth.
Since he is not atered yet he may spray your house.
I have had unaltered males and it is not fun.
I also would have him HCM scanned.
Many sphynx have heart problems.
I would wipe him with baby wipes before you try giving him abath.

He is pretty! Congratulations! Defintley fatten him up a bit. He is the thinnest of Sphynx I've seen thus far. He is pretty tho!

As far as grooming, get him used to being wiped down before you start bathing him. He will become acustomed to it if you make it routine-ish as much as possible when you start. Just keep at it and talk to him sweetly while you bath him. Once he gets to know you better he will allow you to do more with him. He is probably still figuring out what is going on at this point..

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We have some baby wipes, and the previous owner said he was used to being wiped. She said he had an issue about his feet and nails being touched and trimmed.

Wow, I am amazed he looks thin. I suppose I didn't realize just how fat Sphynx were meant to be. ^^; He seems a lot huskier in person. I can see how he looks a lot thinner in the pictures. I guess it's a good thing I included pictures!

Brown teeth are connected to heart problems? Or was that just a general FYI? ^^;

Yea he looks real thin for a sphynx.
Try wrapping him in a blanket before you cut his nails.
I use stridex to clean the oil off the nails then I scrape the stuff off.

Try to wait till he is relaxed and sleepy to do nails. My males both hate baths and I just plow through and do them anyway. Do a search on baths. There have been some really good threads on them. He is very handsome!

I dont think he is too horribly thin.....he is the same as my sphynx, nofuratu but Nofur has a little pot belly.....Im sure yours will grow one!
I think it is tetracyclines (type of antibiotic) that cause brown dental staining and are not supposed to be used in puppies and kittens.
Get him neutered ASAP and have the vet check his teeth while he is knocked out.
For bathing I find they are calmer in the bath tub than the sink.
Make sure the water is warm enough.
Have a freshly hot towel from the dryer to wrap him up in after the bath....this helps them get relaxed and sleepy.....wrap him up like a burrito.....
Then clean his eyes, ears, toes, trim nails, brush teeth etc while his wrapped up in the towel...just pull out a paw at a time.
I massage Nofuratu's feet after I clean them. He doesnt like to have his feet cleaned or trimmed but he loves the massage at theend and stretches his toes out like crazy.
Use coconut oil on his dirty spots about 15 mins before the bath....to losen up the dirt.
Try cleaning his toe jam during the week. Wrap him up in a blankie and do just one foot, give him a massage and some treats and then let him go so it turns into a more fun experience.
Good luck!

I think he looks good also about the same weight as Leo. Do you know what his weight is? Pictures can be hard to tell.
You can brush his teeth they sell little toothbrushes that hook to your finger and kitty toothpaste (I get t in walmart)
The teeth have nothing to do with HCM you can talk to your vet about that, but if he has had a healthy check up from your vet then I would not worry about that.
When you give him a bath fill the water up to his chest and always keep a hand on him between the neck and shoulder blades works for me (Athena is not fond of her bath)
Wipes are great too, and as for the nails I always say once you start clipping them finish then all, if he thinks you will quit if he puts up a fight then he always will, once he knows you mean business he most likely will just let you finish.
Sounds like he has gotten a great home:ThumbsUp:

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice!

He is only 9 pounds at the moment.

We definitely are getting him neutered, so we'll just have him checked all out of course while he is under.

He is so loving, and is great at devising ways of getting more pets and strokes. He even sleeps right in bed with us. Josci was a little jealous, but they each found their own spots and didn't have to quarrel. =]

Also, he likes the ferrets' old hammock, and has dubbed himself master of it. =P

Glad you got your baby--he's pretty--looks just like my Habibi. I think 9 lbs. is a good size. But will def. fatten up after getting neutered.

thanks for sharing the pics of your beauty:ThumbsUp: His weight looks great to me If you let your sphynx get overweight it could lead to heart problems. I do know that they get brownish teeth when they are nursing because of the brown greasiness of the skin but it's suppose to whiten when the permenant teeth come in. My cat's teeth in the back look a little yellowish don't know why though? congrats on the cat:ThumbsUp: do not let the cat hear you fill the tub, have it ready to go mine got freaked out when I tried to put it in the sink but when I filled the tub just like the other person said it made a difference way better.
