Background: Sally is 8 years old and has been on monthly injections of Solensia & Adequan for osteoarthritis of her left shoulder for just over 6 months. She is not a very good patient when it comes to the vet. I pick up her injections and give them to her at home. Saw major improvements months 3-6. Tried to go every other month but that was too long. The vet only suggests the injections. Anytime I ask about light therapy, CBD or any non drug therapies I get met with resistance. I am not against medication, just something to supplement to make the meds work better/longer (East helps West). So today I had to go see my bone/joint doctor to get a PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injection in my shoulder. Figuring he would laugh at me, I asked about it helping a cat. To my surprise he was very supportive, knew it had been done and recommended a vet to ask about it.
Questions: Have any of you done PRP or stem cell therapy on your cats? If in Texas, where did you go?

There is a vet here in San Antonio, Dr. Dan Kirby, who uses the types of alternatives you mentioned. Not sure about PRP, but wouldn't be surprised if he also does it. He's not my vet, but I am very familiar with him through a radio show he does every weekend. He seems like a wonderful doctor and I would use him if we weren't blessed here in San Antonio with a cat-only clinic. That said, I would definitely turn to him if I were looking for alternative treatment or if I ever needed a second opinion.

You can listen to the show live on the internet at KTSA.com and it airs every Sunday from 11-12. The show takes calls, so at a minimum you can ask him your questions. If you're not too far from San Antonio, maybe you can get treatments, too!

Please keep us updated! And good luck to you and Sally!

Hi, just reading this: acupuncture, Pet ElectroMagnetic Force pad (there and home), Light therapy, massage….one more, I’ve used this last for rehab on my own broken bones. I use Pemf since my surgery as well. We go to NJ. Just know my pet insurance won’t pay for any of this. She also takes solensia but ran out of money. She is 15.

They just started shock wave therapy on Foxy yesterday. She responded really well and is moving about more effortlessly than even usual after her usual treatments. Yesterday was only pemf, massage, acupuncture and this new therapy. She wasn't even distressed about the gel on her fur. They just acquired this new equipment and thought Foxy would be a good feline candidate. It has been working well on dogs and horses. I still cant remember my human wrist modality. Grrr.

I need to ask about Platelet Rich Plasma. Rehab vet is far and after work we are so dead. Monday we have the regular bet for solensia. Going to set my alarm to go off when I’m there to ask. She has full checkup for kidneys as well.
