Uber's teeth are in poor condition. One of his canines is blackish and cracked in half (the bottom part is gone) and an unconfirmed number of the teeth are black. I know at least 3 of them are, probably more. This is not something I'm pleased to be discovering. I now wish I would have made a vet check for him right away. He had just been to the vet in March to be neutered so I didn't think it was such a priority. I'm going to start him on some tooth gel (the TropiClean stuff) and will probably get the water additive stuff again too.

I'm frustrated. We were planning on taking Wooter for her annual work-up next month because she's overdue. But now there's this teeth thing that shouldn't be ignored and I know that's probably going to be at least a couple thousand dollars to deal with properly at the vet. The good news is that they both are in good shape otherwise as far as we can tell.

What other things can I consider for helping his teeth at home? Does anyone feed chicken necks and notice a difference? I feel like I do have a good home attack plan in place. I guess I more just needed to vent.

PS: Here's a photo of our morning snuggle session. https://photos.app.goo.gl/meLpZUZz8wPpcxaY7 Now the crazies have set in!

@carakitty ((hugs)))
Do you have a pic you can share of Uber's teeth ?

With my crew , my vet will let me book the appointment for both kitties at once so only one office visit charge - helps a little ..
Same with the dogs . Perhaps you can call and see if they have a similar policy

If they do decide to do a dental cleaning , be sure to emphasis and insist on NO Ketamine anesthesia -
It can have a rebound effect on the heart that can be lethal if there is an underlying heart issue .
I also my vet if they use "ISO " isolfurane gas anesthesia or similar .

With a cracked broken tooth it really needs to be seen - best to catch it early so it doesmt possible brew into an infection . Teeth infections I know in humans can go to the heart .
I would call the vet and ask if they made any chart noted on his neuter surgery about his teeth -

There is an Oratene Mainteance gel and an Oratene antispectic gel made for pets
I get it online - you can ask your vet about those products too

Is he eating and drinking normal?
I would definitely suggest a vet - perhaps than van move up Wooter's wellness check and see them both at once?

Whenever I take my kitties to the vet I know ask them to check teeth, listen to heart for any murmurs too while I am there. Sow,times I find they are very busy and I have to emphasis I to please do this during our visit especially if we are there for something else . I try to cover all basis at once . I know personally the expense eoth vet visits with my crew.

(Side note - sport so long ...I actually got a "care credit card " for emergencies - many vets offices and people dentists off its etc have a brochure -

Care credit is not for everyone but if you stay on top of it and take Advantage of the 6 mos for over $200 or longer promos you won't pay a dime of interest - know that paying the minimum monthly will not pay it off on time and that's where they get ya for nearly 30% interest compounding . My vet has often on their own gave me up to 18 mos promos
I have never paid a dime of interest - I take the amount of the bill and divide it by the promo time 6 mos etc amd make at least that much of a payment each month a s the. Some extra if I can -

I have all adult adoptees so pet insurance - care credit had been my go to for specialist etc
If the bill is $195 I will add on a bottle of Hylyt shampoo at the vet so it goes over $200 amd I get a 6 mos promo on care credit ..
Just wanted to share bcz I have been there done that with vet bills and needed to find an alternative bcz seems like all happens at once .)

What color are his gums? It is a cracked broken canine tooth ?
Many of us have been thru dental things woth our babies -
My bill with extractions was about $300
All depends on what's involved

Hopefully a simple dental will take care of Uber

Head smooches to both !
Surely others will chime in too

Will be following closely for updates

Thanks for the reply Yoda Mom.

We do have a Care Credit card. We use it as a last resort method. We usually can find a way to make things happen without it.

Uber's teeth are darker than the one in the second picture. I do hope the home treatments will help. Maybe the raw food just sticks to the teeth more than canned and kibble?

I was looking at pet insurance plans a while ago. I probably should find a plan that we can fit into our budget, I know it will help.

At this point, I'm thinking that we will see how much the home treatments help, and probably do a tag- team appointment with Wooter and Uber next month.

Uber is doing great other than his teeth. He's running around like a psychopath right now going between killing the toys and jumping on the kitchen counter to sniff the steak dishes in the sink from last night. I think I may need to see the doctor myself, to rule out whiplash! :ROFLMAO: He eats his raw well, is great about the litter box, and his sisters are getting better with him every day! :cat:

After this round of crazies is out of his system I will take another look at his mouth and see if I can get any pictures. I'm also going to email his former owner and see if she can send me his full records. All she gave me so far was the invoice from his neuter, his last HCM scan report, and a barely legible copy of his lineage.

Yoda Mom posted some very good info and tips already, I just want to mention that I give my boy a raw chicken neck 1-2x/week and he gobbles them right up, and his teeth are great! I also try and brush them once a week too.

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear about Uber's teeth. These things can sometimes just sneak up on us. I agree, if even one tooth is cracked, it should be seen sooner rather than later.

I feed both my Sphynx raw and even though they are half siblings, Max has absolutely terrible teeth and Min has great teeth. Every year Max has to have his teeth professionally cleaned. Min can get away with every couple of years. In between I brush teeth every day, but it barely keeps Max maintained.

One thing I want to mention is that a couple of Max's teeth are darkly stained from the fact that he grooms himself intensely with those teeth so his teeth become stained from his skin oils. What's really important is to have a look at the gums. The gums should be pink, healthy, and not red at the edges.

Keeping you and Uber in my thoughts.

Got a better look at Uber's mouth. His gums are reddish and swollen. He will be coming with us to Wooter's annual checkup so we can get a quick look from the vet and hopefully an estimate for his dental work. I'm going to ask them to listen to his heart too.

My vet has recommended a dental care cat food, cleans the teeth while she eats. My son had a cat with bad teeth and all but three teeth had to be pulled. His cat lived for years like this. They just smooshed his food for him.

I have been trying to remember to put the Tropiclean gel on Uber's teeth nightly but have forgotten some nights. It does seem to help his breath so I'm sure the hard bits are getting broken down too.

No appointment has been made yet.
