Hello community! I know the vet is the better adviser here, but I feel desperate after the first visit.
Ellie had a scratch/wand on her back paw, when she arrived, and this doesn’t heal for more than a month. The breeder assured me there was no trauma, and the wand originally looked like a burn from a home heater she liked to lay on. As soon as I remove the bandage or collar, she starts leaking and biting the paw, provoking a new scratches and injuries. It happens at the same place. I am changing the bandage daily and applying mupirocin and hydrogel (prescribed by vet). But I am not sure what comes next. It seems to be very long treatment period :( attached are photos after she bit the paw, I can’t upload a video of how she behaves, but she is biting and scratching the paw with her teeth very intense. Appreciate any advices.

Poor baby. Yeah, I would get a second vet check or second opinion. I agree this is a long time for this to have not healed and find it odd it is only one paw she doing this to. I wonder if there is something imbedded/under the skin that keeps irritating it especially since you have it bandaged and protected. Are there any obsessive behaviors you witness besides this? @SphynxEllie

Thanks! Other than this behavior, she acts absolutely normal - playing, eating, drinking and restroom habits are fine. It just this weird irritation we are dealing with is disturbing her :-/

I am thinking infection in that paw which is good it is only in that area. Not fun for you to narrow down, but a vet should be able decipher what is going on. Try getting on video the licking behavior after bandage is removed with your vet…your gut is right, something is irritating this area. Have you looked into different litter choice? If so do 2 boxes so they have options. @SphynxEllie

thank you! I am using wooden pellets, but even prior to my litter box, she got these symptoms while using no litter at her previous home (breeder told me she started leaking her paw with no identifiable reason). I was wondering if that can be something related to dirty nails… or anything. I’ll update this thread after showing her to another vet.

Sorry to hear she bit it again today.
A collar is a good idea. Hopefully it will stop her from biting her paw. Fingers crossed for the vet visit

@SphynxEllie , awh.. Ellie.. I agree with advise shared.
I know personally Mupirocin has worked wonders on my pups skin in the past as well as vetericyn hydrogel.
second opinion? did vet palpate paw ? think an xray would be indicated? to check bones and if something under the skin? skin scraping to check if it is yeast or bacterial?

following closely for updates for Monday's vet visit.. hugs n healing vibe head smooches you get an answer and speedy recovery. I feel for you and sweet Ellie. hope the cone is helping.

Hello community!

The issue is still there… since she is taking antibiotics and topical meds, I doubt it could be bacteria, but who knows. She is not pulling her paw, jumping and running and playing a lot. So I hope there is no bones related issues.

I also ordered her a cat socks, ordered powdered antibiotic to dry it instead of moistening with ointments and sprays, and will go to another vet in a week or two, is the issue will persist.
