Blackheads

Hi! I recently noticed Momo has some blackheads on her tail and I want to know the best ways to get rid of them.

can you share a pic of Momo's tail?
I use trizultra w/keto on cotton swissper pads for wipe downs weekly including tail, I use everywhere *except face.

I just bought some Witch Hazel and hoping that will help. She’s a messy kitten, I have to give her 1-2 baths a week plus wet wipes in between as she builds up gunk fast. Also sorry not the best photo of her tail, it’s hard to get her to stay still.

@LijM99 I forgot to ask, is Momo spayed? how old is she now? hormones can play a role .
sharing, some have found overbathing can cause some skin issues. members have shared rinse and rinse again.
it's such a balance to find what works for our individual kitties.

She is a spayed 5 months old.

@LijM99 , do you use coconut oil? reason I share many of us dont use anymore as can clog pores.
let us know what shampoo/wipes you use.

I use Argan Oil for her. The breeder I got her from recommended it.

@LijM99 , maybe a little break, spread out use of the argan oil and see if it clears up? I know its a light oil and non comedogenic. I have some too.

I don’t touch the blackheads on my kitties tail. Doesn’t seem to bother her.

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll try it if the witch hazel doesn’t work. I think Momo is just a greasy girl, I only really use the oil if her skin looks/feels dry which isn’t often.

I was lucky to try something new HyLyt a while back before is was discontinued so I bought the biggest container of it. Before that PurePet D’Grease we used for years… tiny amount goes a long way and you need to rinse BIG time and rinse again.

I was lucky to try something new HyLyt a while back before is was discontinued so I bought the biggest container of it. Before that PurePet D’Grease we used for years… tiny amount goes a long way and you need to rinse BIG time and rinse again.

I have a slight update! They are still there but turns out it’s not blackheads! I’m in contact with someone who has Momo’s brother and the same thing developed on his tail. The other person has more experience with Sphynx’s than me and is a vet, she isn’t sure what it is yet but it’s not blackheads as they are only on the surface.

@LijM99 , sharing side note. just an fyi, hormones can affect skin. some get hormonal "stud tail" when young
Stud tail is more common in sexually mature male cats, especially those that have not been neutered. However, it can also affect female cats and neutered males in some cases.Jul 18, 2023

@LijM99 , mine even have some normal pigmentation spots (checked by vet ) you will see more on in group.
when I had my first, I worried about everything. I joined here and got assistance and helped with asking what questions to ask vet as well.
for a decade I have been using trizultra w/keto on a cotton swissper to wipe tails, body all **except face. my vet recommended almost 20 yrs ago with my crew of kitties and pups to wipe out ears with. its dual purpose and can be used as a skin flush so I use as weekly wipe down instead of baby wipes, then gently pat dry. mine are 10,12, and 13.
you can ask your vet if it would be good to use on Momo's tail.
