Hello, I am new to Sphynx Lair.
I have a sphynx/Bengal female who is 8 months old. I want to have kittens but I know nothing about breeding sphynx cats. I know her and the male will need to be the same blood type, she should be at least 1 year old and she will need her shots before getting pregnant. I've read that it is kind of dangerous for the kittens to breed with a mix cat like mine because they could develop heart problems...she is only like a quarter Bengal..so I'm wondering if she bred will a full blood sphynx male that the kittens will be OK. This is her first time being in "heat" and she keeps sitting with her bum pressed downwards and making funny whimpering sounds. I don't really know if there is a way to help her or if she gets cramps like humans do. Anyway, all advice is welcome! I want what's best for my little Luna!

Hello and welcome. It would be a mixed breed and I know nothing about a Bengal cat. I would do lots of research and seek out both a Bengal breeder and a Sphynx breeder for more information, especially trying to mix different breeds. Just in case your wondering of the dangers of not neutering your cat, I added this link for you. :) Should I spay or neuter my sphynx cat?

@Frances , Welcome to you and adorable Baby Luna to the lair family .
Perhaps @momdeeze has some, suggestions

I have had bengals for 30 years - they have their own health challenges as a breed.
I personally do not recommend mix breeding Sphynx, sphynx mix , to Bengal.

There are breed pairings that can even be lethal
Kittens are all so adorable but my concern would be in the genes and long term health.

My kudos to you for reaching out to the lair family for making an informed decision for the betterment of the breed.

Baby Luna is adorable :) I know you want the best for her. I look forward to lots of pics and tales :)

I can't offer advice on being in heat comforting but others may chime in with more experience.
Also read up on Pyomtra - uterus infections that can effect unspayed females.

@Frances welcome to sphynxlair for you and Luna. Luna is very beautiful!
I don't know much about breeding. Only thing I know that it needs a lot of research about genes and health issues. I think it's important you look for a reputable breeder who wants to be your mentor.
Hope other with breeding experience will chime in.

Just wanted to say Luna is beautiful :) I do not know anything about breeding. But I agree with @Toa and Ross about finding a mentor, someone who can help you out :)

Is there a reason you want to breed? I am an advocate of the breed and Bengals are not considered outcrossing options. @Frances

People in my family all want a sphynx kitten...so instead of them spending money they don't really have on getting a kitten, I thought I'd just have my kitty have babies and then i cant let myou family adopt them!
