Hello, I would like to ask you whether you are familiar with spots on the body? We have 4 month old Sphynx, after he brought it to us, he made darker spots. The vet said it was allergies, but the spots are not red or itchy. The Czech forums, no one knew the Board. To give an illustration photo. Thanks for ideas.

Welcome to the Lair, are the spots raised or flat? How old is the cat? How long has the cat had the spots? Do the spots change? get worse, get better?
thanks

Has your cat ever been clawed by another cat?
Cleo has the same thing were Polar has clawed her and where she has been cut before.
It looks the same as your cat.

Thank you for the welcome. The spots are raised, are symmetrical with the skin. It looks like freckles. I think that the spots were added, the shape does not change spots. It's been about 14 days. Blankets for sleeping which I washed. Hes 4 months old Thanks

The cat lived with siblings before we brought him. Spots has more on the sides and thighs. I can send photos directly from a better side if it helps. Thanks

If the spots suddenly appeared, i would see a skin specialist. Our male cat has similar looking spots but not so many and they are not raised at all. How old is the cat? Have you changed the cats diet or litter in the last couple of weeks? It almost appears as "sun" spots? has he been laying in the sun frequently?

Eliot is 4 months old. I'm afraid that here (in the Czech Republic) is not a skin specialist Sphynx. Feedings have not changed. Sometimes he is the sun, but it had been earlier in the breeder. We got a special shampoo from the vet, bathe him again and see. If it does not improve, we need again to the vet.
Ps: I'm sorry, but my English is not the best. Thanks

If it's any consolation Butterball has those kind of spots too. They developed slowly over time from when he was about six months old. It seems many others have them too. They don't seem to bother him. He doesn't scratch so I assumed they were just normal part of growing.

Both our Bug and Boris have these spots, they are reddish brown (almost like bits of that earwax or that brown stuff that sometimes forms at the base of their claws)... they are flat with the skin, and look just like grease spots, but they don't wash off...they are mostly on the inner thighs, with a few on the chest and back. I actually thought that Boris was just growing spots, since his skin/coat changed from white to a very light orange/pink colour as he has grown.

The Vet told me it looked like a skin infection when we got Boris fixed, and gave a shot of antibiotics, but it did nothing... any ideas? the cats don't seem to notice, they don't scratch or lick the spots, so I don't know... they are both about 8 months now...

anyone have Ideas? I don't mind seeing a vet, but I am paranoid about the cats catching something from the vet office, so I don't want to expose them unless it is necessary. If the spots seemed to bother them in any way, I would definitely make an appointment, but they don't seem to notice.

I would take him back to the vet for a follow up visit. If it is a skin infection, one antibiotic shot may not be enough to clear it up.

so... I feel like a stupid head, and a bad kitty-mommy... :Dizzy:

After about an hour and a half of googling late last night, I found a random post from someone in australia mentioning grease spots resistant to mild soaps on their sphynx, and that they used acne pads to cleanse them... I used J&J baby soap, or Ivory bar soap to clean our kitties, because they both seem gentle, and non-irritating...

So I tried a cotton make up remover pad with some of my face cleanser (Clean and Clear mild for my own oily skin, LOL) and the spots came off! I had to scrub them for a while, but they did come off... And then I gave them a regular bath to wash off any residue form the face cleanser. This morning, they are both spick and span!

I just mention this for the original poster, because my vet too diagnosed this as a skin disease or infection, and gave anti-biotics. Like the original post, our cats did not seem to care about the spots. They were not raised or bumpy, and they did not *appear* to wash off during normal bath routines. I normally bathe them every 4 or 5 days, but I guess the J&J baby soap was too gentle... I have heard other sphynx owners use dish soap like palmolive, and now I see why! Maybe try using some dish soap or a cotton make-up remover pad for some scrubbing action, and see if the spots come off too!

What wonderful news. I'm so glad you were able to solve the mystery. Thank you for sharing what you discovered with us. I know you have just saved a Sphynx somewhere in the world an unnecessary round of antibiotcs and vet expenses.

Hello my cat has the same thing except more black. She sits in the sun very often. The vet took a biopsy of one, not raised all flat on the skin and said that it was due to a virus and could possibly turn into squamous cell and that If they become thicker or crusty she needs to some back.

My Apollo has some freckles just maybe 6 or so a few on his head 3 on his body. He got them after he turned 6 months and they probably are sun spots we have a big picture window that the cat trees are by. But he doesn't lay directly in the sunlight..it just warms the area for them. Try washing with dawn soap or D'greaser and if that doesn't do it maybe check with the site Admin provided of skin conditions and compare. Good luck

Well finally I was wondering what it was my little Winston has been getting darker and drawer under his belly and on his hind legs and I just couldn't figure out why he didn't have so many dark spots when I first rescued him I even got malapet and emu oil shampoo for them I had been debating on pulling out the dawn since it gets rid of greese so well I guess I will have to try it... especially since I wash him every couple days or so

Ok so I got the dawn out well actually it was the great value antibacterial dish soap and I scrubbed and scrubbed and the stuff barely came off at all.... a little of it did but not a lot and he isn't really fond of bath time anyway so I'd what else to do to get that stuck on oil off... I have tried emu oil and malaseb as well as dish soap what else is there besides taking steel wool to him and just shaving the oil stained skin off? (Btw thats a joke I would never do that) and even if I was stupid enough to try he would have me clawed and bitten to death long before I was done

Lol...if you have done all of that and the spots are not coming off, it could very well be natural pigmentation.

Well he didn't have them when I first got him... and they aren't just spoty spots it's like his whole under belly is darker with little sections here and there that are even darker and last night while scrubbing him some of it came off and got a little bit lighter but not much

This is great to hear! I'm definitely going to try this in a couple of days due to the fact that I just bathed my naked boy. He also suddenly started getting these freckle like spots in areas and having a small issue with dryness; but so have I. Before I bathed him I had some vitamin E oil and coconut oil mix I smeared on him for a couple mins before washing it off.

He didn't appreciate the extra long bath and was giving me a tude, BUUUT it has to be done. Hopefully this will help. Has anybody else tried this and it work or help??
