So we did it yesterday! traded in our smaller camper for a much much larger one. It is brand new and we wanted to be able to take Harold with us camping. My husband is a really tall guy and he wanted a bigger bed, and bigger shower. Our small one fit me fine. My selling point was Harold can come!!!!!! Lol. The bedroom has real closing doors so he can safely be secured in the bedroom until he relaxes and wants to explore. It has air conditioning and heat so he will be comfortable temp wise. The little dogs will be coming too and they are like harolds safety blanket... if the dogs are up running around then he feels safe enough to come out to.
We are really excited.
Our first camper we only bought 3 years ago, but at the time we only had suvs, so we had to get a certain weight to be able to pull it. But My husband bought a truck recently after.
We will be going for one small camping trip in a couple weeks. And then we already have reservations for a 5 day camping trip about 3 hours from home. One more reservation for labor day weekend. And usually one or two small trips in-between.
Any tips from someone who takes their sphynx camping will be very helpful!
If we will be coming in and out a lot I will be sure to lock him in the bedroom so he cant accidently escape. Thanks!!
Camping has been the only thing we do that we haven't been able to take Harold with us. And after the past trip and harolds food and skin troubles we really wanted to find a way to take him with us.

@farleys. So excited for you ! We want pics too!
I haven't camped so my only suggestions would be to have all. Paws microchipped - and if they are - call the company and make sure info and # up to date - same if you are using tags -
Lol I probably would be camping in the driveway for overnight practice runs :)

I do know @Xandria has taken Max on vacays and may have some great input!

Sounds like a gorgeous camper ! Congrats!

How fun! I look forward to hearing all about the adventures you go on. Here is an older thread with info about traveling with a Sphynx. How to prepare for a trip with your Sphynx cat. I think my biggest fear would be having your baby slip out, so the leash/harness will probably be key. One thing @admin always stresses is to be sure to check all windows and screens.

Thanks!! And yes everyone is microchipped and has name tags with our numbers and vets phone number. We also just ordered tags for everyone with the names of the campgrounds we will be at for sure this year.
And yes i do beleive harold will have a night or two of sleeping/ hanging out in the camper with me in our driveway to help him get used to it!

Thanks! I will definatly go look at that thread.
Yes we will be very safe about the windows! And he doesnt mind a harness cause we take him outside on one so i do that! He has been on vacation with us before and stayed in a hotel and he was very scared but without our little dogs it was so quiet and every little noise sent him into hiding! So we will get him used to the camper first in our driveway. And there will be many pictures to come!
One fantastic thing about the camper we picked is the door on the back end opens up into the bathroom which also has a closed door into the camper living area. So like a safe way to get into the camper without the dogs or harold even being able to get to the actual outside door. So i beleive we will use this door the most because of the safety feature!

With the practicing in the driveway and all the safety for them
and always watching the doors, like you will and the door in the
back, sounds like, it will be, one, big, happy family, camping trips.

Oh this sounds so exciting! I'm happy for you, and hope you take lots of photos to share.

We do take Max on vacations with us and he travels really really well. The only issue is that he is so curious about new places that he forgets to sleep (rather, doesn't want to sleep), and eventually gets a bit cranky until he finally settles down and sleeps.

Lots of great advice already given. Make sure you have a harness and leash, as well as various clothes, for some outdoor time. I always bring a kitty first aid kit and bag of other essentials (medications for tummy upset or bee sting, vetericyn, zip locks, cloths, and feliway spray). I also bring a couple toys (although they never get played with LOL). Bedding, of course. And I have a portable litter box (storage box filled with litter), scoop and bags.

I always laugh because the back of the car is loaded with more cat stuff than our human stuff!

Have fun!

Oh how exciting!
You will have to let us know how it goes, and perhaps also take photos to share! :)
I tell Nicole all the time that we should buy a nice camper like the one you have, because I want to be able to go away but have our babies with us!!

Got to take out the new rv this weekend. Harolds first camping trip! Went well, like i thought the dogs really helped him get comfy quicker. He came out with in a half hour to explore. Really nice using the entrance thru the bathroom to go in and out. Never any risk of him escaping. It was chilly and raining all weekend so he spent most of the time curled up in a blanket. We kept the heat on tho.
We took all 4 dogs and the cat and it was a pleasant relaxing trip.
Harold didnt eat as enthusiastically as he does at home but still ate good. And no vomiting so that was great!

@farleys how nice that Harold and the dogs got to go and it all worked out. I love the pic of Harold looking out the window. That's always fun for a sphynx. :)

That's really great. Harold, looked, like, he loved, looking out the window.
Glad, it went well.
Now, the whole family can go with no problems.

Love the pics! Sounds like so much fun! I'm so jealous. I don't think there's any thing more fun, than RVing. I have so many fond memories, when my kids were little. You need to go on a trip, so we can see the pics.

Thank you for sharing photos. I really hope you also share more photos and stories of future excursions. Great RV! Now that would be the way to retire!

Well I lost my original log in since its been so long since I have been active on here!
My Harold is now 13 years old and still goes camping with us!
He is a seasoned camper at this point in his life!
We have been so thankful to be able to bring him along.
He is starting to get up there in age and starting to show it.
Had him at the vet for some bloodwork yesterday and decided to get on here to see if anyone has had a similar situation!
