Hello everyone, posting for the first time here, we have been looking after a friend’s sphynx, T.T., on and off for almost a year (our friend’s been away so often that this is beginning to feel like a co-ownership now…). We absolutely adore T.T., and he’s sparked our interest on all things sphynx.

We really didn’t know much about this breed to begin with, but since T.T.’s stay with us has become longer and more frequent as of late, we researched a lot more so we can care for him properly, and only recently that we have learned that there are actually two major breeds out there, the Sphynx (Canadian Hairless) and the Donskoy (Russian).

We had always assumed that T.T. is “Canadian,” obviously not every cat looks the same, but we sometimes find that T.T. looks quite different when comparing to the pictures of other Sphynxes, probably just because of the whole “eye of the beholder” thing since T.T. is so dear and unique to us, we “want” him to look different. But upon learning about the Donskoy, we’re beginning to see more resemblance…

We’re in Asia, these cats are simply referred to as “hairless,” and our friend doesn’t know neither since he adopted T.T. from someone else and there’s apparently no paper or anything. The chance of T.T. being a Donskoy is rather small though, like in North America, the breed is not very common here. “Canadian” or “Russian,” we love him all the same, but I guess we’re just curious and thought we share this here and see if anyone has any tip on how to tell the two breeds apart, or simply just enjoy these pics~

Thank you for the replies~
Been reading about the DNA test, and I know we may just be a “glorified cat-sitter,” but we’re definitely thinking to talk my friend/T. T.’s owner into doing it, or maybe looking into the local options, and will be more than happy to chip in if that’s not overstepping the boundary of course…

T. T. really stole our hearts away.
We have a Scottish Fold, Mask, who is affectionate and loving, but T. T. really took it to another level, this breed is truly fascinating!
