so noticed some head shaking and ear itching today so I took kitty to the vet and got perscribed canaural ear drops. Anyone use these before? this was my first time at this vet so idk how much experience this vet has had with sphynx cats but paranoid me would like to know if anyone has used them and if they are safe. of course google says worst case scenarios like deaths and deafness, cant help but have a miniatire heart attack. I will go cry now.

We have never used it I am aware of but here are two threads that members have said they used it and I didn't read of any issues they had found, I'm sure if you follow the directions you should be fine. :) http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/dirty-ears.12213/#post-156790 and http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/ears.5263/#post-68730

Yes used them for a few courses this year.

Vet needs to make sure no hole in eardrum before use.

Instructions on bottle label contradict vet you only use one small drop.

They work!

so I went to put more drops in her ears and they were just coated in oily dark wax...this is supposed to happen right? just loosening up the gunk in her ears? anyway I just cleaned it out and gave her som more drops

For the use of these drops the vet prescribed a cleaning agent drop only. We were told to use and then go back to the vet for a week to check for a hole in the drum. We then had to continue with the cleaning agent drop only for another week until they could see right down into the ear for the drum health. All the gunk was cleaned out of the ears from the cleaning agent drops then we were then able to use these Canaural drops. I found that the ear can get squishy and wet I rang up the vet told them that I was reducing them. Ears should not feel squishy and wet.

I see.I was just given the drops for a minor bacterial infection and I notice it kinda seems squishy wet, but shes having a lot of dark wax come up over night in time for her next set of drops. did that happen do you as well??

@mint forgot to mention that the vet also take slides and swabs of the stuff in the ear to make sure that they are the right type of drops to kill that infection. The whole process can take up to 6 weeks.
