:Dizzy:Ok here it I have the five cats in my house. 4shynx(all fixed 2males, 2 females) and one haired (fixed male). they have been together for 4 months and all is fine now all of a sudden in the last 2 days Harley (male 7months) and Nuba (female 2 years) have started fighting. Nuba will come across the room and just swat him for no reason. I actually heard Harley Hiss for the first time the other day. usually this happens if Harley is sitting in my husbands lap or in the bed between me and my husband, but it dose happen at other times too. She dosen't bother the other cats just him, and him and the others play and get along with no problems so for the life of me I can't figure out what has started this with her..Any advice? She hasn't hurt him just swats, chases and hisses at him. I don't know if she is jealouse or just moody? if anyone can help please do...

Is Nuba especially fond of your husband? It does sound like she's probably jealous. And since she was new, it took her a while to get comfortable and adjusted, and now she really feels like this is home so she can assert herself more. As far as advice, not sure if I have any - all four of mine still swat and hiss at each other, get moody sometimes, but they also play & snuggle together and I figure as long as no one is getting hurt I just let them work it out! I will say, though, make sure Harley has a place he can escape to when he needs to get away from Nuba if she's going after him.

I'm with Brooke. All cats are going to have some ranking. We very seldomly hear anything from our cats, but on the very rare occasion...someone will hiss. And its generally because another cat has crossed the line and is being too rough when playing. For this, I can understand and only verbally correct the cats.

If you find that the occasional swatting and hissing becomes more specific to someone's lap--the important thing there is to level with all the cats and permit NO ONE to sit on anyone's lap (or in a given area, if its over space). If these cats were all introduced 4 months ago, I'd expect its about time that ranking start taking place. You may find that using a Feliway diffuser in your home is beneficial in helping to calm pets. You can use more than one if you your house is large. And may also try using Rescue Remedy for the aggressor.
