change in behavior at sitters

I’m not sure what happened in Cleo’s head. She’s had the same sitter since she was 2 weeks new to me, she was raised by his dogs and when I watched them all together two weeks ago she was fine. She loves the female dog, the wrestle and sometimes they get a little rough and need a half hour break from eachother, but then go back to playing and cuddling. The last two weeks when I’ve been traveling for two day spurts, the sitter said she’s been hissing at everyone and now the dogs are starting to be scared. She seemed so scared (of a bunched up rug on the floor when I picked her up last week, she was hiding under the bed staring at it) This is all new behavior. She used to cuddle with this person and all the dogs. She did two weeks ago at my house but now at his house she seems manic and mean. Do you know of something that could be wrong or could help her? I don’t blame the sitter he comes home from work and she’s already acting like this. It’s so strange for her to suddenly seem so upset, as she never hisses. I’ll take any help and ideas , thank you

@Sphynx Cleo , awh. ((hugs))) the first thing that comes to mind is perhaps a little too much playing rough, got stepped on or a paw to the head playing that may have startled her and she swiped back at pup. my kittles play with the dogs too. maybe they startled each other playing a little too rambunctious? not sure how big the pups are? my pups are 80 lbs so I supervise constantly watch and immediately stop /redirect .

perhaps on future pet sitting times keep pups and her separated , a kitty safe room? or rotate free roaming? are the pups and her alone together when he is at work? if so, I would try a different routine keeping them separated when unsupervised . do you have cameras to check playback? I got some cheap wyzeV3 cameras on chewy (come in 2 packs too). easy set up and NO fees. they send messages to join per camera but not necessary. been using the cameras for at least 3 years and no issues. I can check in on my phone. again, no costs except purchase price, just have to check no to cam plus option. they work great, used with my epileptic dog and diabetic dog to check in.

please keep us updated often. lots of love and hug smooches. how is she now?

brainstorming... have the pups been to vet or recent baths? I know my boy gets hissy when he smells something different about the others when they come back from vet visits.

Thanks for trying to help! It’s so strange bc ever since I got her she’s been around my 1 dog and my best friend who watches, who has two dogs. They’re all small, 15-18 lbs. she loves the girl but sometimes they do play rough and she needs a half day break, but has always went back to play mode with them. She was always like queen of the house too now she’s affraid of every corner. Same apartment, no changes really. I moved closer 6 months ago into the same building so our apartments mirror eachothers too. Maybe she got in a tiff with one of them last week and is still not over it. It’s so strange trying to figure out what happened. No fresh scratches on anyone, including her. No cameras at the sitters but will try to keep getting her back used to the area

Oh I do think dk has been getting more hot spot treatments lately, maybe she doesn’t like the smell of the spray? It’s a petco hotspot spray I think is really the only scent change.

Is it possibly she is in pain or has a health issue that can make her act like this?
Did there something change in the sitters house? Maybe one of her pets is not feeling well?
When the sitter leaves the house, is your sphynx in the same room as her dogs? Maybe something happened?

I’m wondering if something happened, though no one including her has any new scratches on them. I may take her to the vet and see if she has anything going on. Was starting to get a mucky ear I was originally going to treat at home. We recently painted the neighbors house back to white, but I also put dramatic wallpaper on one wall in my house the same time and she wasn’t bothered

Great advice given. Any odd change in behavior warrants a quick vet check. They can give a once over to check if they are in any possible pain. My guess is something startled her big time or as mentioned roughed up accidentally and very scared. Please update us. @Sphynx Cleo
