Someone had mentioned to me that I should get some coconut oil. This might be a silly question but keep in mind I am new to oiling cats. Do I rub it on when she is still damp or wait for her to dry? Can I put it all over? Someone said it will help keep her clean so I don't have to scrub her bum. If someone would explain the oiling to me I would appreciate it greatly!

Thank you in advance

I put it on after the bath or when they are dirty.
It was soften the dirt up on the butt so it will come right off.

I also put it on after a bath when they're dry, or if they get dirty between baths. Oogie I keep oiled alot - I swear I should re-name him pig pen LOL That boy gets dirty faster then any cat I've seen! The coconut oil helps! Osiris doesn't like it, I'm trying to slowly get him use to it, I think it's the smell he doesn't like. When I brought him home his first bath was terrible, the oil was a no go, and it was so hard to get that build up oil and dirt off him - He had clearly not been bathed in a LONG time, when I'd extend his nails to clean the nail bed, all 4 paws had spots that looked like they where starting to get infected and so much build up gunk it literally FLAKED out when I extended the nail - GROSS! So far he's allowing me to do it on his feet and tail, but doesn't like me doing it on his bum, body, or nose. We'll get there slowly! He's learning really quick to tolerate grooming, I doubt the poor guy got much if any at his late home!

I always put it on before a bath while I'm running her water. I put it on her feet, butt and belly and anything left over I just wipe all over. Then when I'm washing her down with the soap all the dirt just comes right off and I don't have to feel like I'm scrubbing her.

Sophie doesn't like her nail beds cleaned so it definitely helps break it up right before a bath. I also use it on her bum. I think I will start putting a little on her belly since she accumulates a lot of dirt there.

I use olive oil on 5e, he seems to like it better ( he purrs when getting oiled). I just wish he enjoyed the washing part as much as the oiling. He just tolerates washing off the oil.

There are several good organic brands out on the market that I like, but I don't know if they're available in the UK. Tropical Traditions is probably the best, but it's also very expensive. I usually buy the Spectrum and Nutiva brands whenever they're on sale. Other good US brands are Radiant Life and Omega Nutrition.

I just did a search for UK brands and the ones recommended are Coconut Island and LubiLife. More info can be found here: www.virgincoconutoil.co.uk

Coconut oil is not only good for our sphynx kitties, but it's also great for us humans as well. It helps with metabolism and thyroid issues. I've been using it in cooking a lot, as it's helped me kick-start my weight loss again whenever I get at a plateau or stall. I use it on Piglet to moisturize her skin where it's dry and to loosen up the dirt on her skin before I give her a bath.

I just put it on nofuratu's nose, butt and in his toe folds about 15 mins before a bath. He gets a line of dried food on his nose that builds up every few days and the oil helps work it off.....I just apply it with cotton swabs or q tips.

That's what that is, Gulliver's nose get's that too... He's just a dirty boy, we should have called him PigPen
