I am going to retire very soon, and to keep my mind alive, I want to get a PhD in Geology. Strange I know, but what else am I going to do? I have a couple masters, but ran out of money, before I could finish up. I built a telescope and spend every clear night I can, looking at nebulae and galaxies. I am a lifetime learner, and maybe one day, I will take on a "retirement job" and teach a class at the local community college.
Geology? Ever since I was a kid, I was collecting rocks and taking them home in my pockets. To this day, the sound of rocks banging around in the dryer can still be heard.
Anyone know of a good school? I was looking at Colorado State at Boulder, Penn State, and Michigan state at Ann Harbor. Plate tectonics and reactance zones in shear geology (plate tectonics where the two plates mash together) is something I would like to study.
