I've typed the first sentence of this thread about a dozen times, not quite sure how to start it, so here goes... I have 2 black Sphynx kittens coming home in a few weeks, and in the photos I've been sent, they just look grey... I'm honestly just ignorant about a lot things Sphynx, one being color from kitten to adulthood. Do they get darker with age, or will they end up being more grey than black? If anyone has photos of their cats as a kitten then as an adult to see the difference, I'd love to see them!! (Also just because they're cute!)

Most of the time a black sphynx will get lighter with age. Because you are looking at skin pigmentation and not hair a lot of things can change.

I have a blue and white bicolor who was thought to be lilac (he was very light as a baby) but his color darkened up as he grew.

I'm not entirely sure why black Sphynx tend to get lighter but it's common.

If you look at my picture of Tut to the LEFT he is pretty grey. He was super dark as a new born. I am almost sure he is a black cat since he has the signature yellow eyes. I'm terrible at pictures but you can check my 'albums' here or instagram <@my.sphynx.kitty.tut>

Thank you so much for the reply! The whole color change thing with Sphynx is just amazing to me... some of them seem to turn into an entirely different cat! I love it! Keeps things interesting, haha.

Yes! Some babies are even born (thermal) white and get their color slowly. It's always fun to see them change!!!!

@AnjyMonster here is our tuxedo Azura. She was so black as a kitten and now you can see lightened up so much. We have another girl who is seal and white and she was a light smudge and got much darker and wonderful markings as she got older. I love watching them change. Every day is a gift.

I'm definitely okay with the Grey! All of the examples I've seen are just incredible! What a gorgeous kitty!

@Cinderstar95 -- what a cutie, and what a change!!! It's so amazing.

The way Sphynx can change colour remind me of fancy goldfish. I used to keep fancy goldfish and OMG, could they change colour based on health, diet etc. Any way... awesome pics and thread.

I often tell him that he's lucky he's such a cutie. The second picture is after he knocked a box of about eighty clear thumb tacks onto the ground and nonchalantly ignored the problem

I used to have fish before I moved into my apartment. Had two 55 gallon tanks set up one with angel fish and the other as just a tropical set up. The angels were amazing and though they didn't really change color much they were absolutly stunning. But in my other tank I'd often have my swordtail and platys hybridizing and the color patterns they'd get were always interesting. Very vibrant.
