Corneal Ulcer? Help!

My 4 month old Sphynx, Nala, who I’ve had for 2 weeks started to develop a cloudiness over her eye with a translucent dot in the center of her cornea. It didn’t seem to bother her until the other night I found her bleeding f her left eye. I thought it could be a scratch. I got the bleeding to stop and the following morning she woke up with a big protrusion over her eye that fully blocks her vision. She oddly doesn’t seem in pain.

I’m taking her to an eye specialist first thing tomorrow. But I’m really hoping to get some insight from someone who has had a similar experience and how it was treated. I’m anticipating that she might need to undergo a procedure and I’m desperately hoping that she’ll keep her vision in the eye.

Yes that looks terribly painful. Cats do hide their pain very well. Glad you are taking to the vet because I think you are right, it looks like an ulcer. @Yoda mom I believe has treated eye issues with drops and saved the eye so don’t give up hope yet.

@MisBlinkyPopeye , (((Hugs))) and positive vibes for adorable Nala. glad you are taking to specialist tomorrrow. my regular vet sent me to a specialist. so glad I went. the eye specialist was wonderful. gave an evaluation and a treatment plan. all depends on severity and diagnosis. my boy had a corneal sequestrum. my regular vet said may need surgery , referred to eye specialist. for my boys case, he got meds and eye drops and his completely healed. (previous posts about my Yoda's corneal sequestrum.).

some of the meds he had was oflaxacin and Idoxurine. ( the receptionist called in the rx to Samsclub, with a plus membership the price of drops went down to $30. )

Turned out the ulcer had pierced through and formed a hole on her corneal layer. She needed to have surgery to get an eye graft taken from a pig bladder.

She was a tough cookie and came out of surgery doing well. She’ll need to wear a cone for 2 weeks and go to two follow up appointments. I’m giving her drops 3x a day and an oral antibiotic 2x a day. I’m keeping a close watch and hoping that she doesn’t get into anything that can comprise the integrity of the eye. The doctor didn’t suture the eye shut to prevent this possibility from happening, though I’m not sure why. However, I trusted him and he seemed confident she’d heal. She will very likely have a scar but should be able to retain vision.

I’ve only been a Sphynx owner for two months (I got her sister in October) but wow I’ve never encountered something this terrifying. Still learning how to best care for them and build their immune systems. I give lysine and probiotics. If you have any expert tips, let this scared new mom know!

Wow, what an introduction to sphynx for you! I'm afraid I don't have any experience with this kind of problem but I'm sure someone else will be able to offer advice. Healing vibes are sent for a speedy recovery. Please keep us posted.

Wow what a shock! Glad you intervened early. I wonder what caused such a terrible injury?

I, too, am surprised the eye wasn’t sewn shut. I know little, but it is common practice. You vet must have his reasons.
