Does anyone have any tips on how to treat a very large cyst in the ear flap? I’ve put CBD, castor oil and an antibacterial on it and it seems to be getting bigger.
I’m worried to have it removed surgically.

Honestly…that doesn’t look like a typical cyst to me. It probably does need removal but if you get into the vet asap they may be able to remove it under simple sedation. I had something similar looking removed off the neck of one of my cats and it was just a shot of sedation and pain medicine, a couple stitches later and she was good as new. And also felt fantastic the rest of the day from the meds

@Kalyan , welcoming you and your adorable baby to the lair family. what is your adorable baby's name? all paws are family. personally I would not put anything on it (do no harm theory as we don't know the diagnosis yet and some products can cause more irritation and that it is inflammed), and get to vet asap for diagnosis. often times some antibiotics and topical cream will clear things up.

*** Early intervention is best in the long run. sometimes it even will eliminate the need for surgeries as I learned with one of mine years ago.
hugs n positive vibes. please keep us updated often.

sharing, when I take mine to the vet, I have a talk with my and ask vet for the least intrusive treatment plan based on diagnosis and try conservative treatment plan before lots tests immediately . often times antibiotics are FREE for pets at local pharmacies. my vet calls in antibiotics to local food store to save money. I called my local food store (here in FL , Publix, and they have a list of free pet medications at the counter too).n

I would ask vet to rule out an ear hematoma. I have had pets with in the past, immediate vet visit and conservative treatment at vet and no surgery needed. ( I can't diagnosis but wanted to share to ask vet about).

following closely for updates.

Thank you her name is Mia. It’s a cyst that’s filled with blood. The vet gave her an antibiotic and some antibiotic cream. She said the only way to remove it is with surgery. I really don’t want to do that to her. I feel it’s too risky.

@Kalyan , glad you got Mia to vet and some meds asap. Please let my know if they called it a "hematoma"? My pups in past had hematoma and got meds and body reabsorbed in a few months no surgery. Not a vet here but would ask if it's possible it is a hematoma that could clear on its own in a few months? If it is different than a hematoma be sure to mark chart No ketamine anesthesia. My vet uses isoflurance gas inhalant instead. If she scratches T it, some members have bought those little soft flower cones online. Here for you. Following closely for updates
Glad you got meds, all paws crossed it helps clear it up.

Glad you were able to get to your vet. Please share the risks you/vet are concerned about. Your experience can help others in the future. Did your vet share the name of the condition?

This was the response. They want to use ketamine midazolsm for temporary sedation. Andy thoughts on this info?
Regarding removal of the mass (charges are outlined in the attached estimate):
We will need to do preanesthetic labwork a few days prior to surgery day
The day before surgery, she will need to be fasted after her pm meal, water is ok
When she gets here, we will place an IV catheter and administer IV fluids during the procedure
30-45 minutes prior to the surgery we will apply a dose of Zorbium to her skin. This is a transdermal Buprenorphine which will provide pain relief for 4 days postoperatively.
We will then give her an IV injection (Ketamine and Midazolam) to temporarily sedate her so that we may place an endotracheal tube
Isoflurane gas anesthesia and oxygen will be administered through the endotracheal tube
She will be given an injection of Convenia also. This is the long acting antibiotic that she received at her last appointment. This will provide antibiotics for a little over a week postoperatively, to help avoid infection
The mass will be removed, and the incision closed with suture
The tissue will be submitted to a pathologist for analysis. These results are usually available in about 14 days, around the time when the sutures are removed.
The procedure itself will likely take about an hour (not including all of the preparation and aftercare
Usually we have the pet dropped off in the morning between 8:15-8:30, and she will be ready to go home in the afternoon (between 3:30-5)

Hoping that Mias medication will help the problem without the need for surgery. I do know from reading many posts on sphynx lair that ketamine is definitely not advised

@Kalyan , what was the actual diagnosis? Hematoma?

is it a hematoma that can clear up with meds and time like some of my pets have had.
it can take months for the body to reabsorb a hematoma. My vet took a conservative approach to see if it would heal on it's own and it did.
I know each case is different and I don't know what the actual diagnosis is for Mia's ear.

I personally would get a second opinion. have copies of records emailed to you so you can take with.

NO Ketamine or mixture thereof for my comfort level. I have charts marked "no ketamine anesthesia"

Ketamine can have a rebound effect on the heart if unknown underlying heart conditions.
My vet uses Isoflurane gas inhalant / others similar she uses on exotic pets, no ketamine or mix of.
Mia is your baby and you can get a second opinion and or talk with your vet about other meds to use besides the ketamine mix.

Hi
Thank you all for your support. The vet recommended we take her to the vet hospital because they have more options for anesthesia. Mia got a heart echo and there is no heart disease. She saw the surgeon and they were willing to remove the growth in the ear same day.
Being it was not deeply attached to the ear flap the surgeon was able to laser it off and no stitches were needed. She also removed a cyst under the chin.
Mia did great in surgery and is home resting. No ketamine mix and she was in good hands. I was so worried but after talking to the surgeon, her confidence, and care helped us make the decision to get it all taken care of! Im
Sure she’s feeling much better without having to drag around a big lump on the ear!!
Thank you all again for your input and thoughts!
