Damnit Nalah!!!

So today I got home about 7pm to see the UPS man in front of my door. . . which surprised me because of how late it was. However, I was happy to see him because I knew he had the meat grinder I ordered to make food for Nalah. The Tasin TS 108. I asked him if he needed me to sign for the package and he stated He did. I told him to give me a second while I opened the door and put my stuff down because I heard Nalah meowing inside as well. I put my stuff down, greeted Nalah, signed for and received the package. Sometime in the 60 seconds it took me to do all of this, Nalah must have slipped out because when I closed the door I called out "Nalah, Nalah!". When she doesn't meow or show herself in response, I go into a panic, running from room to room yelling "Nalah! Nalah!". Not wasting any time, I grab my keys, run out the door and down the stairs. Luckily, I live in an apartment building on the 3rd floor and I found her on the 2nd floor landing meowing in front of a door. I literally began to cry. I scooped her up and brought her back upstairs. I scolded her and asked her how she could scare me this way. I haven't spoken to her since except to tell her how angry I am with her. I fed her her dinner and now I'm sitting on the couch. Of course, she's laying on my lap being all cute and nuzzling me. It's so difficult to stay mad at her. At one point her face seemed to say "I'm sorry. . .".
Damn this cute and stealth Sphynx !

I live in a condo complex but the front door faces the outside (although I have a patio, I leave the door open so my nakeds can see out from the windows). Any way, we receive packages all week (we have a home office). I ALWAYS get the delivery people to come inside, shut the door, and then do the signing etc.

While I'm glad you live in an enclosed place, nakeds often want to "be free" and "explore". Don't be afraid to ask delivery people to just come inside to finish the business of package drop off.

As an aside, my pizza and sushi delivery guys are in love with our nakeds ;-)

Oh I am sure you were stressed out beyond belief. She just being Nalah that little stinker. If you see she starts to be a door stalker, keeping a can of compressed air by the door to shoot in the air might help do the trick. Most hit the hiss sound. I have also heard shaking pennies in a can scares most as well.

For now, just love her up. Your gut knew something was off, and it was a good thing you trusted it. @lynda hollis

LOL I think our pizza guys think I have a drug lab in my house to hide or something. I always open the door about 12 inches and am constantly glancing behind me to see where they are!

@lynda hollis can imagine how stressed you were. An escaped sphynx is the biggest nightmare of all of us I guess. Happy to hear you found her still inside your building. Cuddles her extra long, and if she wants to stop cuddling, demand more cuddles to make up.

She was the ultimate snuggle bear last night! She definitely made it up, that little potato.

Good morning everyone! This is my very first post/response as I am not only a new Sphynx mom, but this exact situation happened to me yesterday morning. I just purchased an acre of land and have a group of very awesome hens. They wake me up bright and early to get to their enclosed "kennel" and new henhouse. Yesterday before it was light out, I opened the door and before I could react, a white streak went past me and out the door and ran to the edge of my woods. I was in a panic. As soon as she realized what she did, she bolted like a bat out of h@ll. I was going in and out of trees and bushes trying to find her, afraid to leave to go inside and get a flashlight because I did not want to lose her. At this point I was in tears. I wanted more than anything to go back in time ten minutes, as I knew this could be it. I have predators, plus the elements. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a white flash again, and she was running to me. She was pretty far off and by the time I got to her, she was visibly shaken. However, by the time I got home from work yesterday, and pretty much all evening, Fiona was stalking the door. So she has not learned her lesson. I am seeing perfect idea's about using an air can or rattling pennies. I have a 14 yr old son and kids come in and out. I am worried. I will start this process TODAY! Thankfully she was recovered yesterday, but I had also given her a bath the night before, and she did not have on warm clothing and her collar/id tag was off. Was NOT a good feeling. Hi, I am Shelleee, and this is my story. Again, I am brand new to the group and the breed as well. She is a handful and the love of my life!

I'm a new Sphynx mom as well and she's the apple of my eye. You'll find a lot of wonderful and supportive people here on Sphynxlair who are always willing to give advice and make suggestions so don't hesitate to share your experiences and questions with us!
I'm so glad you got cute little fiona back! Your experience sounds a lot more harrowing than mine was and I was so scared. For a bit I thought she ran out because she didn't love me anymore. But as it turns out, Sphynxlair taught me that this is just their nature and that they do regret leaving to whatever degree a little Sphynxie can.

Thank you! I am trying to learn my way around this site so my apologies if I am posting this in the wrong area. Yes, I was truly traumatized and will need to figure out a fix for this! I am thinking I need to microchip her....paint her neon orange, attach a gps device...anything! lol

@Shelleee7399 welcome to sphynxlair! What an awful moments you went through yesterday morning. Knowing Fiona running outside, still darkness everywhere and the preditors...can imagine you were in tears. Glad to read Fiona finally did come running back to you.
As you noticed, as soon they smelled freedom they want more of it. I always have to watch my trio when I walk out the door.

@lynda hollis OMG, your story made my heart beat a bit faster. I felt your panic as this was always a big fear of mine. I'm so glad that Nalah is back safe in your arms. She is so beautiful.

These guys are escape artists. The day before my third boy's first birthday, he went missing. It was over SEVEN hours until he suddenly appeared out of nowhere in my home. I was shocked when I saw him as I thought I'd never, ever see him again. It was winter and there was snow on the ground and I was convinced he was outside taking his last breath literally freezing to death.

We put up flyers all over the neighborhood and went on foot and car with a flashlight looking for him. I cannot tell you how we tore the house apart looking for him and he was "not here". I'll never know where he was, all I know is that he was here sleeping for over seven hours "somewhere" in my home.

I never want to experience that again and when I read your story, it brought back horrible memories. Keep Nalah safe. Again, I'm so glad to hear you found her. Hugs.

@Shelleee7399 @lynda hollis we taught ours to come when we whistle. I don't know if it would ever work outside the house... but it sure works when we are inside the house. We did it before giving them food or treats. Now all I have to do is whistle a couple times and they will run and jump on top of me.

Oh goodness, these stories had me all worried, I'm so glad all babies came back ok, it would be terrifying! I usually pick Rosie up if I answer the door to someone. Thankfully we have a screen door which allows me to see who it is after I open the main door. Mostly Rosie is scared of people knocking, so after being picked up she has a wriggle and runs in the other room. But still, I'm the same @MollysMom and open the door a tiny crack, checking over my shoulder- yes, goodness knows what they think I'm hiding lol!
