Has one of your Sphynxes ever done something completely out of character or unexpected that just blew you away?

When Tanker was 13 he had gotten outside through an open door, but before I could worry about him being outside for the first time, he came trotting back to the house with a dead baby red squirrel in his mouth. I could hardly believe that he had enough of a hunter instinct to actually hunt and kill something bigger than a house fly.

Tanker was so proud of his kill, but I couldn't get over my dismay at seeing such a cute little creature laying dead at my feet to praise him properly. The disappointment in my reaction was written all over his face.

Wow, a hunter at age 13! my cats have brought me half dead rats, baby birds, and even a baby rabbit. It's always hard for me to be proud of them for it, but I know they are pleased with themselves.

Snuffie hasn't brought me anything. We did have a houdini mouse at our old house and she would go crazy when he was getting into whatever. He had a kitchen drawer that I had to keep empty because he just made a mess of it all the time so I gave him my drawer and set up sticky traps, little squirt must have break danced all over because Snuffie was going crazy one night trying to get into that drawer and by the time I got it I could tell he had been on it but he had gotten away. She would be a good mouser if she could have gotten to him. lol So far at our new house there is no sign of mice but we do have those huge carpenter ants. I've had our house sprayed twice now and they are dissappearing but I'm still finding them and so is Snuffie. Its nothing to find her sitting on my counter following a little ant around with her nose. She wont kill them tho. She will only smack them if they get too close to her! lol The pest control lady said it will take a few days for the spray stuff to work, I guess it takes time because its pet safe and human safe, but if they are not gone by next week I'm having her come out a third time. I can't stand ants. I clean and clean and clean and my house still feels dirty cuz I have ants! bah!! lol

Oh no what a shame! I have been surprised when Mo went in my friends garden and chased a bird, you just don't expect it. He didn't catch it but was very close! And he doesn't venture out very often!

Ugh! we had ants this spring, they were in my bathroom of all places. We finally had someone come spray and it did take a couple of weeks before we stopped seeing them.

wow thats crazy!
I was worried about Leo and Athena going after our daughters new chinchilla but they are fine with it, even or new addition Deejay is fine he loves to sleep on her bed during the day and never even looks at the chinchilla.

I think the most I could say about that is I'm always shocked at how our male Sphynx acts in the show ring- he acts like a stuck up snob! He is literally the sweetest boy, but at shows, he acts like a butthead! I'm always shocked and left scratching my head- he acts like the judges are below him and that he'd rather be ANYWHERE but there, being admired and loved on. Ah, the rough life of a Sphynx!

Tanker was such a grump at his first show (he came in 2nd best altered shorthair at a TICA show in Dec 1992) that we never showed him again. Although he was a loving boy at home, he tried to stare down anyone who dared to look.

After that we never left Tanker alone when he groomed our guinea pigs for fear he would nibble off thier little ears or toes.

Yes!!! Our exterminator found a freaking ant nest in the bathroom!!! :Badly2: We moved into a house knowing we were going to have to put work into it which is fine. We already have plans on tearing out the bathroom floor and redoing it because of previous water damage, when we do our exterminator is going to come back out and respray again because the floor is currently rotted and probably has other nest in it. We haven't seen any ants in the bathroom, she flooded it pretty much but we are seeing them here and there in the kitchen mostly...i so can't wait until we are done fixing this place up.

All I can say is Ughhh to bugs. I hate bugs in the house in general. Spiders I can deal with they mostly keep to themselves and eat the other bugs. Our house is still pretty new (5 years) but we've had the odd mouse in here (not since Hibou's been home mind you) my biggest gross out is Earwigs...that is about the grossest thing in the world to me.
Went camping last summer (music festival weekend) and ordered pizza one night. There were some left over and a few hours later when we went back to munch on it I openned the box and there were literally over 100 earwigs crawling all over it and happily munching away! :Badly:
I screamed, and threw the box into the fire pit...the earwigs were scrambling to escape.
Soooooo grossed out! (i'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it)

ewww. I had to google what a earwig was but yeah, I've seen them before. They are gross little things. I'll just be glad when all this fixing up is done. The house is only 30 some years old but the lady who lived here before us was a obvious pig! I had to scrub (sweat breaking scrub on my hands and knees) our kitchen floor by hand with a scrub brush 3 times to get up all the grime. I think tomorrow we are laying new carpet in two more rooms. She just didn't take care of anything I don't think!

I mostly have black widow problems.

Ok I had ant problems in texas. Spraying never worked so I went the home remedy route.

You can google all the different remedies.

I used mint oil. I got it and sprinkled where I knew their trails were and I never saw them again.

Is Mint oil pet safe? I've had the exterminator here three times now, the big army ant lookin things have dissapeared but the little itty bitty ones are still hanging in there. Its like they are migrating from place to place....so annoying!!!

I had 3 dogs at the time and didn't have a problem. I do believe it is pet safe, but I can't remember. I just got it from the health food/homeopathic store. It was in a little bottle and I just dripped all over the place!

I hear they don't like vinegar either. My grandmother swears by molassas paste you can google how to make that and that is pet safe. I had the little tiny "sugar ants" the most. I also had the carpeter ants but they were coming in the fire place and once I covered it in mint I never had a problem again. I read you can also use mint leaves and whatnot. They hate the smell. Plant mint around your windows and doors. I used mint since I cannot stand the smell of vinegar!

I remember a time when I woke up and felt a lump under my butt. Was still half asleep when I reached down and pulled it out, grumbling at the kitties about who had dragged one of their toys into bed. Then in my still-almost asleep mode I thought it felt weird and brought it real close to the near-sighted eyes so see what toy it was. Their idea of a toy was a dead mouse, really squished after being under my fat butt. I screamed and threw it across the room - which just reinforced the nekkid buttskies's idea that it was a fetch toy.

Yeowza! What a way to wake up, Marlene. I could see something like that happening to me. In fact I have picked up one too many gross things due to my near-sightedness and lack of morning coffee. It can be very hard not to reinforce naughty kitty behavior after seeing the response they can get out of us.

Thanks for sharing that story! Hillarious (from this side of the computer anyways)
I would have freaked too!
I don't mind mice, but not in my bed and especially not dead!
(Hmmm sounds like a Dr Seuss book!
