I’m reaching out for help rehoming my cat, Bonnie.

Bonnie has Tritrichomonas, which causes chronic diarrhea and has included episodes of bloody stool. She has shown visible improvement with treatment, but the condition has not fully resolved. She has been treated with metronidazole twice and tinidazole once. She has never received ronidazole. I currently have ronidazole ordered and on the way, but I am not equipped to manage her long-term care or isolation needs.

Bonnie currently weighs about 6 pounds. She was approximately 4.5 pounds with her prior owner and around 5 pounds when she came to me on December 8, 2025. She is on probiotics and eats Purina Pro Plan wet food. Since adopting her, I have paid for extensive veterinary care including diagnostic testing, medications, and necessary dental work, all of which significantly improved her comfort and quality of life.

Unfortunately, my circumstances have changed drastically since adopting Bonnie. Shortly after bringing her home, my vehicle was totaled, and my home’s main water line burst, resulting in an very costly emergency repair. I have also spent of a lot of money on Bonnie’s medical care. I am a disabled veteran, currently unemployed, and receive VA disability income. While I wanted deeply to be able to care for Bonnie long term, I can no longer afford the ongoing and potentially lifelong medical treatment her condition may require.

I also have another cat, and my boyfriend has a dog. Because Tritrichomonas is highly contagious, Bonnie must remain isolated, which has become increasingly difficult to manage safely and humanely long term. I am very concerned about the risk to my other animals.

This has been an incredibly hard decision. My only goal is to ensure Bonnie is placed with a rescue or experienced home that has the resources, knowledge, and financial ability to properly manage her condition and give her the care she deserves.Pictures of bonnie

Hello! Where are you located?

I am located in South Carolina and my rescue is pending 501(c) ( 3 ) as we just got our EIN and approval from the Secretary of State. I plan to run a medical rescue specializing in kitties with illnesses like tritritchomonas.

We have a Lykoi rescue we took in last November that is undergoing treatment for tritritchomonas and a Sphynx we took in here from SphynxLair last week who has suspected tritritchomonas as well, we did her fecal PCR Friday and are awaiting the results.

I’m very experienced and would love to connect. You’re absolutely welcome to email me, you can reach me at [email protected]
