EMERGENCY LUNG PROBLEM!
My Oscar who is six years old had been diagnosed early w/heart disease so we've always kept careful watch & regular check ups- his last thorough check up was February 3. About 2 weeks ago he began occasional coughing & would have raspy watery sounding breathing I made an appointment but then had to bring him in as an emergency when I noticed he seemed weak and was breathing fast
He was treated for heart failure, put on oxygen & medication to remove the fluid's around his lungs after a few days he seemed better, I brought him home but he remained weak & seemed to worsen so I took him back the next day. The Vet has come to believe that his problem is not heart failure but something with his lung most of the fluid is gone but one lung remains very congested or dark- she is doing a catscan this morning & at this point talking about removing the lung lobe as he has been on anabiotic's for the past 3 days without any improvement. She's thinking it may be abscessed or have some type of mass in it he's had several x-rays & ultrasounds but they do not believe he would survive a scope to get a biopsy - he is just getting weaker and we both feel that whatever can be done must be done ASAP
I know there are many threads and so much information in this group but at this point I don't have the luxury of hours to sift through it all!
Please! has anybody experienced a problem like this? if I can get some concrete advice or a lead on a specialist that my veterinarian might reach out to it may help save his life.
As sphnyx owners we know too well that the sphnyx breed is "different" it might be helpful for my vet to discuss this with someone who's had a lot of experience with the sphnyx breed.
Although I greatly appreciate the support and caring of this group
PLEASE respond ASAP only if you have some concrete advice for me

Update: Oscar had his CAT scan showing and unresponsive lobe, The vet could not even inflate it- he's currently in surgery to remove what looks like a dead lobe.

Sounds like the vet had to move fast. Lair Prayers are sent. I went and did a search from the past and nothing popped up about a lung lobe issue/removal. Please keep us updated on how things go as your information might be helpful in the future to another member of the community.

Thank you Patty for searching & yes she did have to move fast- I will post information and anything I've learned once he's out of surgery, right now I'm just praying for him

Your very lucky. Your vet seems very knowledgeable and has no problem acting quickly and decisively. I don't think there's much information that can be given to you that a vet of that quality wouldn't already have. Most vets won't even attempt to re-inflate a collapsed lung because theirs more liability in doing a procedure unsuccessfully then in not doing it at all. The fact that your vet was willing to take the risk says you have a keeper. You have our support though and I do hope that this will resolve itself and you and Oscar get to enjoy many more days together.
