Excessive meowing

Hey everyone!

Just have some questions about constant meowing...

When is meowing considered to be excessive?? I have an almost 5 months old girl and she's always been a little talkative but within the last month or so she's begun to meow A LOT. About anything and everything. I always make sure the litter box is clean, she has tons of different toys, I always make sure she's warm enough ( sweaters, heaters, lots of blankets, heating pad ect) and she's always fed on time and her bathing schedule has been the same since I brought her home. She cries no matter what I do. I just can't seem to find something that would make her seem so distressed. I had her at the vet a week or so ago and they did tell me that she is getting her adult teeth in. Could this cause the crying? She's fixed also so it can't be heat. I'm just at a loss here. Anyone else experience this???

I feed her a good size portion of raw food 3 times a day. I don't exactly measure what the amount is, I usually just eye it. Maybe I'll try more and measure out exact equal portions. I try to keep it at about 6 hours between feedings. It seemed fine until about a month ago. That's when it started getting bad. She's home usually no more than 6 hours alone. Somedays not even that much, depending on my work hours and my boyfriends work hours. Hopefully increasing her portions will help.

They eat a ton of food as kittens. Let her eat as much as she wants each feeding. You can try playing her hard a few times a day. A tired sphynx is a good sphynx!
My boy is a yeller and a little naughty. We play real hard with Da Bird and the laser pointer up and down the stairs.

I feel for you, listening to the meowing is hard on the nerves! My boy does a few loud hair pulling meowing sessions each day, and I find that he does it when he's tired. When he won't stop after a couple of warnings or distractions, I put him in his room, and he usually goes right to sleep? Maybe your little girl is tired?
Sorry, I don't have a solution! I hope things improve over time, it's very frustrating :)

My girl Luna talks A LOT!! but it's because she wants attention or a cuddle. Binx crys when he wants a treat. Pretty much we always give in so we have made a rod for our own backs with that!

I read a lot that they can be really vocal but I was just concerned that I wasnt doing something right or not picking up on something. It's really just started within the last month. I'll keep everyone posted! :)

I will side with everyone in this and the referenced thread - make sure there is no medical cause, even if you have to get your vet to do ALL the blood tests there are. If you can rule out medical and hormonal problems, then you at least know that it's a mental/behavioral issue.

Case in point: when I first brought her home (to an apartment that I hadn't lived in for very long), Miss E would regularly engage her caps lock and yell loud enough to scare the downstairs neighbors' dog if I was out of sight for more than a couple minutes. She was still getting all of the post-spay hormones out of her system, and being in a foreign-smelling place didn't help. For the first few weeks, I would rush to wherever she was when she started the whole damsel-in-distress act, and she very nearly succeeded in training me to be her b****. Then, I watched some Jackson Galaxy videos, wised up, and went through a painful two weeks of training her by completely ignoring anything louder than a purr. After about the first week, she seemed to start to get the idea, and by the end of the second week she was down to a couple half-hearted yowls before just giving up and coming to me for attention... quietly. She still meows whenever I make any food, and has figured out how to completely disassemble the timed feeder I bought her, so there's still some work to be done.

But I digress... I've found that Jackson Galaxy is a pretty good resource, and most of his videos are up on Youtube.

Thanks for the reply! I've actually had success with increasing her portions at meal times. She's almost 5 months old now, I just think I was restricting her portions too much. Most say to free feed until about 1 yr old then start with more portion control.
