I’m sure there’s 101 posts asking about feeding and specific foods, but really..is there a “best” food for hairless breeds? Unfortunately I can’t do raw like I’d prefer due to finances and time, but would something like Primal or Stella and Chewy be an okay option? Or is canned wet food a better option? Sorry for the silly questions, I just want to get everything right lol

My vet has recommended for my Sphynx a dental dry, high fibre dry, and high fibre wet. I leave food in her bowls all the time and she eats whenever she is hungry. She is not overweight. I used to feed her Royal Canin. Now I feed her Hills Science. She seemed to enjoy both brands.

I had been told to avoid foods with corn, wheat, etc. Is that not necessarily the case?
I don’t know if that is the case. I trust my vet and go by her recommendations. Before I got my Sphynx I contacted 4 different veterinary clinics before I found a vet who was familiar with the Sphynx breed.

You can ask your breeder what they recommend if you don't have any vets around, mind they often sell you stuff they get discounts from even if quality is poor. Vet is the right person to ask tbh if you want your cat to be healthy and happy, after the wellness check they will tell you what your baby needs.
I also stopped feeding my cat with Canin.

Why stopped Royal Canin.

Why stopped Royal Canin.
Because they changed their formula and kept the old price, so you can find better alternatives with higher quality and for lower price (eg in germany it's Vet-Concept and Sanabelle). Canin is overpriced just because of the known name. However sphynx breeders get a big discount for promoting their brand.

@AzFern , lots of great food choices out there, members will surely chime in,.

personally, I feed what works, bottom line for me. I live in a hurricane state and finances too , so raw just not the best option for me to be worried about raw food and evacuations, storage, supply, etc.

I tried the stella chewy and mine did not like it. tried wellness, acana, and several others in the beginning when I adopted them at 2 yrs old , and toby 11 mos. old.

mine are all seniors now and I still feed Nutrisource cat and kitten dry food blue and white bag .(no recalls )

Nutrisource not sold in big box stores,( I get online 16 lbs for apx 46.
I take advantage of first time autoships, currently using petfow that has 10% for life autoship.)

believe it or not, the wet food that works for my crew after trying soo many high end they walked away from is
purina proplan urinary focus whitefish or the chicken in gravy. I was not crazy about the ingredients but after a ton of high end wet food they walked away from went to proplan urinary after my first kitty had a uti when I adopted him.

they are all over 10 yrs old now including a bengal with IBD..

nutrisource cat and kitten food touted for gut health and palatability, no recalls
never a vet visit for skin or poo issues and never a uti again. I can feed and go and never had any issues.
each kitty is different. you will find one that works best for you and your baby.

@Yana and Osiris , very true about "breeder loyalty programs" for many brands of foods. I know personally when I adopted a pup from a breeder. I got an email from a certain other company that offered new pup giveaway to new owner kits etc. . I think they cut them a break in pricing because of the sheer amount of food they purchase.
