Hi,
So I need some information if anyone else’s Sphynx has FIV.

Capri has been sick since I got him in January. He has had bad respiratory issues. I took him to the vet in January and she instantly stated he has FIV. He was on Antibiotics (Amoxicillin) all January with eye drops, but he is still sick. I give him lysine but it hasn’t seem to help… do you guys think it could be something else other than FIV? I researched it so much and usually cats do get better that are treated, the symptoms lessen, but he’s constantly sick. He’s always coughing or sneezing and has runny eyes. When I hold him, I can feel he’s congested with wheezing. Could this be asthma or allergies? I just thought if it was FIV his symptoms would’ve lessen more

I clean his nose with saline and he sneezed so much snot out. He ate most of it before I could wipe it but it was a white yellow color, I also give him saline in a nebulizer and that helps control the coughing through out the day.

@Capri , awh, poor baby. so sorry going thru this with him. my first nakid was sick from the day I got her. I feel for you.
did he have tests done for FIV? Elisa test/bloodwork? how did they diagnosis? has vet mentioned doxycycline antibiotic?
you could always get a second opinion ( I ask my vet for a copy of chart notes and tests for my records) hugs n positive vibe head smooches

Hi, I know it hurts my feelings to see him go through this, he’s still so playful so that’s a good thing! And no they just gave him amoxicillin and eye drops, after those ran out he said to give him lysine. They didn’t do any test she just looked at him and said it. Which I kind of feel like he doesn’t have it because he’s just not getting better and usually the symptoms will simmer down when treated. He’s so congested though! I’m going to request for doxycycline and nebulizer treatment for him when I go back Saturday for his appointment

So very sorry that your little one is going through this.
I agree that you should get a pcr test done to rule out other illnesses. Asthma and allergies can be tricky but once diagnosed and on treatment not so bad.
My first sphynx had both. When she was diagnosed with asthma we did X-rays and a sedated transtracheal wash for diagnosis. Later she was diagnosed with allergies. We were giving inhalers, routine and a rescue inhaler for flare ups. I was also giving her allergy serum injections to help her immune system with allergies. She went to many specialists and was a trooper throughout. Hopefully you’ll get to the bottom of what’s going on soon. Don’t be afraid to find a vet that will listen to you as you are their advocate. Perhaps taking a video of the episode to the vet will help. At first with my girl we weren’t sure what was going on. Then my vet saw the video and that made the difference in how we decided to start with testing.
Keep us posted on how the vet visit goes.
