Bald and bald does not necessarily give bald unfortunately. It's all about the polygenes. A sticky bald can produce a fuzzy kitten and a fuzzy can produce a sticky bald kitten. Now with this girl you have I'd call her fully coated, and the texture is not coinciding with an ASH or DSH outcross. Say we have two Sphynx both phenotypically sticky balds, but their genetic make up is (Hr +++++-------) and (Hr++--------), that is where we get a variance in coats.

Okay...so if i understand correct...it is possible to get a hairy kitten out of 2 bald parents....
I find it pretty hard....that genetic stuff...

She looks kinda like a peterbald sphynx to me

I love the Hairiett!! It fits perfectly. She is a gorgeous girl and I'm so glad her and mom are doing well.
As for her next litters, I wonder if this is a genetic thing that will always give you hair or if it will vary on each litter. I'm curious to hear what you find out. Genetics can be tricky, I too thought bald x bald gives you bald except with different variations of coat (sticky, flocked etc).

In sphynx we dont see flocked, those are variations in the Peterbalds coat. But it is true that bald and bald can give you fuzzy. A genetically pure sphynx cannot produce a fully coated baby if its mated with another genetically pure sphynx. So logically the parents have to be heterozygotes for the devon rex allele. Making them (hr/re) both. It is also autosommal recessive so a sphynx can have that allele without any phenotypical expression. But when two heteros for re are bred, we have certain percentages of see a genetic devon as a result.

Even two homozygous (hr/hr) sphynx can produce fuzzy (not fully coated) kittens, it just depends on the polygenes at play.

I love the name Eclipse, and I love the kittens short muzzle, she is precious.

Did anyone else look up the "BIG" words?? lol I did.
I read on the net somewhere sphynx were flocked, must have been misinformation. Thats another I hate, you can read one thing on one site and then another site will say something completely different, how do you distinquish the truths from myths and nonsense?

You crack me up! lol

It's true you can read a lot of BS on the net. I stick with actual studies that are scientifically backed. I've read plenty that HCM is a big heart murmur... we just have to be careful I think in our searches for knowledge :p

hehe - thanks

Yea its all in where your reading. And to be honest I haven't actually researched breeding genetics at all but I'm glad I'm here to learn.

Oh how cute, she is such a pretty color. I know with one baby
Flora will be crazy over her. I'm sure you will be also, since it's Flora's first.
Glad baby and mom is doing well. The name fit's her.
Looking foward to seeing pics. as she grows, to see what she turns out to look like.
But I'm sure she will be beautiful, because she is now.
I would love to get ahold of her and just kiss and eat her up.
She is precious.

Hairriet is a great name for such an unexpected little girl. Her coloring is gorgeous! I'm curious though, I wonder what the registries will think and how they'll register her.

In a few weeks i'm gonna do a parents test....and if Zodiac is the daddy...they should register her as a sphynx then...because she is from 2 sphynxes...so what else could she be then ?
I'm thinking that she may be a lilac....so when i'm gonna test her....i will also test on colors and points
