Well she got sphynx toes
And the hair on her feet and belly is thin...you can see the skin....
Ears are not really up yet....this will happen around 3 or 4 weeks old

I was wondering about her toes. They looked a little longer than most kittens and I could see that the hair on her tummy from the Day 11 pictures looked thin. Its a joy to watch her develop.

I was talking about this in another thread...so i will copy paste it here...because it's about my girl Hairriet...

I found this online....if Hairriet's hair was caused by the rex gen....Hairriet would have looked like this...

Sphynx x Sphynx Kitten Rex gene.jpg

Here is a picture of the little guy, the Devon Rex offspring of two Sphynx cat parents:

Hello! I found your website while doing some research. We bred our Sphynx female (Isis) to our Sphynx male (Anubis).

On August 17, Isis presented us with six gorgeous little boys. Five of them are obviously Sphynx kittens, but one of them (the last to be born) has a coat of fine, kinky hair.
It's not just on parts of his body; he has a full coat of kinky hair. His physical build is identical to his brothers.

I've read that Sphynx breeders occasionally used Devon Rex cats years ago, but it was quite a surprise to see this beautiful baby.

What do you think of this? Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Hi Karen.. thanks for visiting and asking. And thanks of bringing this interesting topic to PoC.

I had never heard of this until you mentioned it. I checked out Robinson's Genetics for Cat Breeders and Veterinarians (4th ed). and on page 180 they say this:

"In fact the similarity of the Sphynx to the Devon Rex induced breeders to cross the two breeds, a practice which led to the finding that the Sphynx hairlessness is dominant to the rex coat."
Interestingly TICA breed standard says that permissible outcrosses are: American Shorthair, Devon Rex. So it still happens.

The recessive gene of the rex cat is usually unseen because as stated the Sphynx hairless gene (hr) is dominant to the rex gene (re)

The Devon Rex gene is recessive also. It looks as though what has happened is what you inferred, namely the subservient recessive gene of the rex has come through and revealed itself in one kitten. It seems you have a Devon Rex in a Sphynx body. A special kind of Devon Rex born to Sphynx parents.

I received this email tho...this was said on the Yahoo breeders list...

I remember years ago, some breeders were working on outcrossing the Sphynx to the Russian hairless breeds to improve hairlessness ... and registering their kittens as Sphynx....

So maybe this has also happened in Zodiac's lines....through the outcross on his mother's side of the pedigree...because Hairriet doesn't look like a Devon Rex....then she should have had at least the devon curly hair....and she doesn't...
I really don't believe that this is caused by the devon gen....

It is 100% genetically impossible for a mating between two hr/hr sphynx to result in a fully coated kitten. It just plain and simple cannot happen. Not all devon kittens are born with a kinked coat and that is why some are deemed show quality and some are not (along with ear placement, stop ect). As we are aware the hr gene is dominant over the re gene, it could have been partially supressed. So mother and father cannot be homozygotes for hr/hr OR father is not father ;) and someone has some explaining to do to you. I have discussed this particular situation (names excluded ofcourse) with many many Devon and Sphynx breeders. All are in accordance with my theory. There are some factors into play here, such as paternity and such, but if indeed Flora and Zodiac are the parents and Flora never mated another stud days before or after her encounter with Zodiac, then they cannot be hr/hr sphynx. It is just genetically impossible. Also matings with the russian hairless would not result in a fully coated kitten as the hairless gene in that particular breed is dominant and it would trump any recessive re gene right off the bat. Ive searched high and low for any other explanation to your beautiful fluffy kitten, and there is none, other then the rex mutation, or she's an F1 :Dizzy:
I am dying for DNA results!!! Literally on the edge of my seat, this is just so interesting to me!
