    hi!
My two Sphinx are 2 and 3 years old . My Canadian is 2 and my Donskoy is 3. I had the Donskoy teeth cleaned 6 months ago. Both of them have red gums around the tooth bed. The Donskoy lost an adult tooth this week. Both are going to the veterinarian tomorrow . I am feeding them Orijens dry food and Soulistic wet food.
I’m just trying to figure out what is the best food to help their teeth they are both picky eaters and allergic to chicken . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi there,

There really is no "food" that can help with dental issues. Don't buy into the propaganda that dry food removes tartar. It honestly doesn't.

Genetics has a lot to do with dental health, but so does simply caring for them with brushing and so forth.

My boy has crap teeth, and it's a constant struggle. I have his teeth professionally cleaned by a veterinarian once a year. And then I do what I can during the year (brushing, dental treats and so on).

Are you brushing their teeth at all? Just like humans, this really does help.

My favorite combination is the following:
C.E.T.® Brand Toothbrushes l Virbac US
      and
C.E.T.® Enzymatic Toothpaste for Dogs and Cats l Virbac US

Don't know if you'll be interested in this option since you've already bought the toothbrush and toothpaste. But maybe you want to keep it in your back pocket if your kitty doesn't like being brushed. I've been using the TropiClean tooth gel for Uber, no brushing. The gel gets applied to the teeth by squirting it into the mouth, or applying with a Q-Tip. That is what I'm currently doing because the bottle is very low and hard to squeeze out. Uber doesn't like having the Q-Tip in his mouth but applying the gel is quicker than brushing. The gel helps to soften the buildup on the teeth. There isn't any scrubbing so the gunk is still on there but some of it must be getting rinsed off when he drinks because his breath has improved! I'm hoping that I can get him used to the oral attention so I can eventually add in using a toothbrush.

@carakitty , thank you for sharing the tropiclean tooth gel info :)
I know some have used a gauze pad to rub dental products on gums too

I will have to look up the tropiclean dental product -
(I really like tropiclean spray mist and shampoo I have used on my dog for years )

I never knew about tropiclean dental gel

Is this the gel you use?
