GCCF Cat show

Hello all, I was wondering if you could all tell me what I need to do to groom and prepare my sphynx baby for his first show! I have never shown before and I think id enjoy it, and him too. What guidelines are there to the presentation? His first show is at Warwickshire, UK GCCF show.

Any advice would be FANTASTIC! also what should I wear???

I show in TICA and CFA but I can tell you how to prepare for a show.
Give the cat a bath before you leave for the show.
Make sure the ears and nails are very clean.
I use coconut oil and make up remover to get the black off the claws.
Make sure you cut his nails on all 4 paws.
You can wear anything you want to the shows.
There is no dress code.

The only tip that I can add that was once given to me is to try to wear something made out of a material (and this goes for cage curtains to) that won't easily get hooked or snagged by cage doors or extended paws.

I show my Sphynx under the GCCF. The main thing is to have them really sparkling clean. So a bath last thing at night or in the morning before you go if you can bear it!

Really get in all the creases around the toes (I'd start practicing this now so your boy gets used to the amount of fiddling and time it takes, and of course you get better at this really detailed scraping of claws and wiping of skin), in between the toes and underneath them. Ears, eyes, armpits, chin creases, whisker pad creases and bottom usually need special attention to make sure they are clean.

I always wipe the ears round with a baby wipe and wipe any eye jelly out last thing before they clear the hall for judging. If you give him breakfast in the pen before judging, remember to give him dry food that won't dirty his face and to put it away before you leave the hall.

Do you know anyone else who will be at the show and able to show you the ropes on the day? It can be a bit confusing at first if you are totally new to showing cats so if you don't know anyone, don't be shy to nab someone who is part of the show team and ask for help!

Remember - it is just one judge's opinion, S/he may love or loathe your cat on that day. Another show, another judge could give very different results. Sphynx can be a bit of a marmite breed so visitors to the show may make thoughtless comments about your baby. If your boy is happy and friendly and enjoys socialising with visitors he can do more to promote the Sphynx breed than a stunning but shy cat who doesn't display that fantastic Sphynx personality at a show. So even if you don't have great success with the results, remember you never know who has gone home maybe considering adding a Sphynx to the family because they met your cat and that is a great feeling!
