Thank Heavens Gadzukz that you didn't give up on Gummi. These times are tough on everybody but Gummi is trying to improve. Her immune system has really taken a beating lately and she will need some isolated space for her recovery. You can keep her separated from the kids, cats, and dogs, can't you? Separate food, water and bedding too? And a litter box for only her? Freezing the raw liver is an EXCELLENT idea too! For in her weakened condition, surely the most common organism, may reinfect her again. It is going to take her immune system and digestive system some time to "right" itself again.
Your entire family has been supportive and once Gummi is fully recovered, she will reward each and every one with lots of love. Hang in there girl!

I am so happy she has improved. I have been glued to this thread the past few days, refreshing every few minutes to see if there are updates. I even had my boyfriend log on and check this post for me while I was at work. NB, she has been keeping Gummi quarentined, even with her own little heat pad :)! Gadzukz, you are doing an amazing job, and Gummi is lucky to have you! I know how your husband felt about the subq fluids. I hated seeing my babys back swell up, it was so frightening, like he had a tumor. I knew it was normal, but it just really upset me to see it on him. My boyfriend thought it was neat....MEN!

Yes, I understood that Gummi was isolated while sick. I am just suggesting that Gummi remain isolated until her immune and digestive systems return to normal and this may take a little additional time.
Putting an animal back into the general population too soon after recovering from sickness has proven to be an unwise course of action at our sanctuary. Just wanted to share those personal experiences for Gummi.

Sorry NB, not how I understood your post. I remember one or two recent posters stating they had not yet read the entire thread and thought you might not be on the up and up with everything that has gone on. Sound advice though.

Gadzukz I'm so happy to read this update. I think that starting to eat on her own is a HUGE improvement! The diet you're using is good, nice and bland. And metronidazole is the drug of choice at my hospital for C diff so if she does have that it'll help. Giving sub Q fluids isn't fun but you're doing great with that too. I think Gummi is progressing as well as can be expected. We're praying that she's finally starting to turn the corner and get better.

More great news to share! My husband is in charge of our town festival today, so we have to be gone most of the day, however, I just stole his golf cart (police light and all, lol) and ran home to check on Gumball!! She was HUNGRY! She was waiting at the bathroom door mewing pitifully, though there is dry food in there she wanted her glop concoction, and she ate three heaping tablespoons of it! more than she has eaten at one time in a week!!!!!!!! I am ecstatic!

Also while she was eating I scooped her box, and guess what!!! There is a giant SOLID poop in there!, now there is no way another cat used her box, so it HAS to be hers, I just scooped it this morning and there was nothing, this poo looked far to big to come from Gummi, but it must have, and it is SOLID, did I mention it was solid??? lol

I have to get back to the festival before I am caught, but I had to share this joy with you guys.

NB~ How long would you think to continue isolation, once she is back to normal? I can do it, it just gets hard when she feels good, because she is stubborn and tortie, and she will want OUT! lol She still of course has several days of meds to go and needs to eventually start eating dry food, but yes this is definate progress!

Thank you so much for letting us know the news! Good Gummi! Keep it up!

I'm so thrilled to hear about her improvements!!!!!! I have been worried all day about what was going on. I know she is still a sick little girl but I hope to God she has turned the corner. I think its a wonderful sign that shes hungry and eating on her own.

Thinking of Gummi and her family
Megan.

YAYYYYY!!! That makes me soooo happy! It's funny how even though I don't personally know anyone here on SL, I worry and wonder all day long when things aren't going well. I was hanging out with the family this afternoon but my mind was on Gummi and all the others!! I'm thrilled for you & her!!! That's awesome news!!:Celebrate::BigSmile:

Awesome news! Check with your vet as to when she can come out of quarantine but I'm sure it won't be long once she's feeling better!

There have been 32 posts to this thread since I checked earlier this morning. I admit that I hesitated to open it, but I'm so glad I did. I have never been so happy about solid poops before. My heart is filled with joy!

I hit my knees tonight to say thanks for answered prayers about Gummi. It truly does sound as though she has turned the corner and is going to be alright and I couldn't be happier for all involved. Tell your son I am sending him a big virtual hug--his being willing to give up his birthday for Gummi touched me deeply --as has your husband's reaction as well. We all love you and Gummi so much. Keep it up, Gummi! Take the time you need to heal and be well--we will continue to hold you in our loving embrace until you are 100%.
Hugs,
Susi and the gang

Remember when Kirk Gibson hit the home run in the World Series and did the famous "fist pump". That's what I'm doing right now.

I think all your sacrifices will be well rewarded.

We just got home from the festival, it's after midnight, whew! I am stealing a minute to let you all know, that there is more poop, soft and runny again, but not water like before. Well solid poo every time is a little much to hope for I guess, lol, but she is out of her crate, rubbing on my legs, purring her butt off, and ate double glop helpings just now, she's got a lot of weight to gain back and is wasting no time with it! I truly feel like we are over the hump, She had no fluids today and is well hydrated all on her own!
I am so blessed to have each and every one of you here!
My son said he prayed for her, and God listens to little kids so he knows she will be okay! I swear that is the most sensitive kid, he does not play sports, and does not always fit in at school, but he has a giant heart and he has the most personal relationship with God that I have ever witnessed. We are not a strict religious family, more often than not, I sleep in on Sunday and miss church, but my 8 yr old collects bibles and has a special tree in the yard that he says he prays under because he "can hear God there the loudest" I don't know where he gets it, but Gummi is blessed to have him praying on her side!

I love you all, and I am off to bed!
