What to expect from a responsible sphynx breeder

We get this question quite a bit here on Sphynxlair so I figured we would compile some useful information, a check list if you will for a first time sphynx buyer or even an existing sphynx parent looking to get another sphynx cat or kitten. All of these items listed below aren't necessarily deal...

How to Detect fraud sphynx cat adoption ads

What are some blatant and obvious signs of fraud or scams have you read about or stumble upon? Have any tips to avoid fishy transactions and deals. I would love to know some pointers, feel free to share.

Hoping this helps you. If you want to PM a copy of the contract I will be happy to take a look for you. Also ask for them to send you the HCM scans from the parents and I can take a look for you as well. Thanks for understanding names of catteries and breeders are not allowed in the public areas and only PMs.

I also wanted to share my experience years ago when I lived in seattle and was looking for a bengal cat. A well known breeder, cat shows etc, tica registered was all the glory so it seemed.
I asked for a visit to the cattery. I was shocked when I pulled up , there were cats in every window and inside rooms full of 6 ft dog kennels with soo many cats in each one like an assembly line.
my heart was broken for those sweeties. point for me is just bcz tica registration number does not make a responsible breeder. the link shared what to expect from a responsible breeder taught me alot when I was searching for a sphynx . my first , avatar pic, was sold by a scammer breeder and she was so sick. my other 4 all adoptees, two from a member here , one retiree from a reputable breeder, and one from a near scam off craiglist. the fraud tips link is very helpful.

agree with copies of HCM scans of parents. I also google search photos and documents .. some are copy pasted etc from other breeders.(more info in the fraud tips link )
always go with your gut, reach out to us anytime. we are here for you. all paws crossed the sphynx stars align.
we can also PM you reputable breeders in your area, just cant mention on main page .
* I also ask breeders if they are sphynx only breeders or do they breed multiple breeds of cats, dogs, etc. ( I google their names, cattery name on complaint boards, google name with complaints, and also google the phone number. in the past during my search for a sphynx I typed in a phone number and found a particular person had Numerous listings for all kinds of cats and dogs like a puppy kitty mill with ads all over the united states.)
