Came home to a very skinny and dehydrated Rosie this afternoon after work--so we went to the vet. She has a pretty good URI going on and was eating less and less for the last day or so, so when I came home tonight I knew we were on our way to the vet again.
Went to a new vet just to see if they had anything new to say--they don't. Anyway, put Rosie on Clavamox and taught me how to tube feed--which will come in handy, for sure--and gave her sub Q fluids and had me put her in a basket to warm her up with my rice socks and warming pads. When you insert the tube, if they can cry, you know you aren't in the lungs--they said to pinch a toe or something. I did, and no matter what I did she wouldn't cry, so I kept taking it back out. Then reinserting it....finally she chirped a little, so I think I got it in- in the right place. Dear God, I hope so. They said it will probably only be for a few days until she fattens up again. I'M TERRIFIED THAT I DIDN'T KNOW WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY THAT IT WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE! Could any of you nurses tell me if the tube were accidently in her lungs would I know by now? I did it about ten minutes ago. I'M SCARED TO DO THE WRONG THING...BUT I REFUSE TO LOSE HER TO STARVATION/DEHYDRATION!!!!
I'm just sick about the whole thing. I am trying so hard--I go to the vet, I do what they tell me, I battle everything I can battle. I love her so much--if I have killed her by putting the damn tube down the wrong place, I will just lay down and die myself. Her brothers are doing great, eating like piggies, running all over the place, batting my fingers, playing. Wonderful little boys...but Rosie is a tender little thing. Please pray for her REAL HARD. And for me, that I haven't done something wrong.
