Having a sphynx as a midnight shift nurse?

Hi, I'm a nurse that works the midnight shift (7p-7a) x3 days a week. I've read that sphynx cats don't like being alone especially for long periods of time and I can't afford 2 cats. I'm really interested in owning a sphynx cat but I don't want to adopt one at the expense of it's happiness. Does anyone else (maybe another nurse) who works long hours own a sphynx and it be okay?

@coolnurse2023 , welcome to the lair family. bless your heart and hugs for all you do to make a difference.
glad you are asking a very important questions for it is a lifetime commitment and they are very velcro!
I worked nights 3 -12's on and off. I had adopted bengal cats and a spouse at the time and we were on opposite shifts, someone always home.
I wanted a sphynx for 15 yrs and kept a pic at work saying someday when the time was right. the stars aligned.
sharing, I have all adoptee sphynx. they all act like I had them since kittens. I actually adopted a bonded pair of 2 boys from a member . (the max rehoming fee on SL here is $250 each).

members will surely chime in. tagging @Sheldon13 and others. many of us do or did work night shifts, long hours.

keep us updated!

sharing a great link on sphynx life. the top right search box for night shifts may have previous threads.

Good to see you are doing research about the need of the sphynx before adopting one. I think 3 days of 12 hours is little long but on the other hand your sphynx will probably sleep and you'll be home 4 days. I think it depends on what you do the 4 days you're not working. If you're mostly at home those days I think it will be fine. Oh and maybe you can consider getting a sphynx and an furry (less expensive) cat?

I worked 12 hour shifts on a rotating schedule before switching to 10-12 hour shifts 4 days a week. My boy is 10 months old and does well with being home without me. However, he has two dogs that are home with him that he can snuggle with/nap with the entire time I’m gone. I think if he was the only pet home alone for that time he would be less content and a bit lonely.

I worked that shift years ago and it was terrible with a geriatric dog at the time. I would say it’s much easier with cats though. Can you get a second kitty that isn’t a Sphynx? Adoption is often free right now because there have been so many surrenders.
