Hello all,
A few months ago Aleister was diagnosed with asthma and he has been doing well on the inhaler. However, I recently looked into feline heart disease and I'm scared that he might have some symptoms of HCM. We had several x-rays done on him, and the radiographer said that his heart was slightly enlarged with a prominence in the left atrium. They said they thought it was a physical anomaly and not particularly heart disease. They still recommended I could see a specialist and get an ECG or an echocardiograph done. Aleister is 5 years old, which seems to be a normal age to be diagnosed with heart disease. They vet didn't seem particularly worried about it, but I just want to make sure he's ok. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It would definitely be smart to have a scan done. That's the only way to truly know what is going on with your kitty. I won't put it lightly. HCM is a scary disease which has taken many of our babies. That being said if you find out early and start medication if needed HCM cats can live long happy lifes. I'd get the scan done soon if you can.

I agree with @nudieluvr I would get a scan to have a baseline. Only a true scan can diagnose HCM as they measure the thickening as well as the size.
