If I intend to adopt this cat so many thing need to be considered about the environment, behavior and also is it good to be around my stray cat? By the way let me browse some forum thread and get to know some info.

Anyone watch the anime Dragon Ball? This breed always remind me the Beerus Sama villain lol

Hi Tommy, welcome to the Lair.
Browsing around is an awesome idea to read upon this awesome breed.
The 'sphynx cat information center'-catogory has a lot of helpful and interesting topics as well. (y)
I'm still fairly new to it myself but there are a lot of awesome members here that can help answer questions etc.
But I do know one thing. A sphynx isn't just a cat, not like others. :ROFLMAO: especially when it comes to behavior.
Oh how are you in for a surprise there hihi. But a good one. You'll fall in love with them in no time.

And yes, I do think the dbz ones are a bit based on the old Egyptian god once, and they do look a bit like sphynx. a bit a lot. :joyful:

@tommy212 welcome to sphynxlair. It's great you're doing research about the sphynx.
Yes a cat is a cat but a sphynx is well...1/4 monkey, 1/4 dog, 1/4 baby and 1/4 cat. Even not catlovers who come into my house love my 4 after a while yelling out loud "but they don't behave like cats, are you sure it are cats?":)

Hi @tommy212! Welcome! I love that you are taking the time and effort to research and learn about the sphynx breed before you purchase one!! That’s So great!! :cat::cat::cat:

As others have said... they are definitely not your average cat! Their behavior is often described as puppy-monkey-baby-kitty. :p You will find that many “dog-people” (my family included) adore the sphynx bc they are so playful and affectionate!
They are also pretty pricey overall and more high maintenance, despite their lack of fur. However, the fun and companionship they bring make it all worth it in my opinion!

Have fun browsing the site. The Lair is definitely the best resource for this breed online! Let us know if you have any questions!

Some silly thought I guess, sometimes I think about it, could this breed mix with local cat? I mean the stray cat. Or it seem like the genetic is fixed, the sphynx will find its own breed to mate. Is it possible for the cross breed?

@tommy212 Cross breed is a thing, occasionally still used to improve the breed by professionals breeders.
But it'll always contains risks as you play with dna and genetica. With some out crosses the kittens don't even survive.
Maybe @Yoda mom or @Catzzzmeow can fill you in more about it.

There are some combinations of breeding that can be lethal due to genetics .
Example Domskoy and Sphynx - different genetics ome has recessive gene the other dominant .
Other things thst can go wrong are deformities and health issues .

I leave it up to the breeding experts who can chime in more

No question is silly :) we all learn and grow together here for the love of the breed -
Any question that comes to your mind , I can bet one of us is wondering the same :)

As mentioned some combinations are lethal. I am putting on my Sphynx breed “ambassador pants” and will share it is frowned upon to breed them unless proper steps are taken and it betters the breed.

Some very good breeders create their own lines to better the breed and only cross breed with certain other breeds to strengthen bloodlines/genetics. Breeding with a random cat is not considered responsible. It takes several generations for a Hairless cat to have Hairless babies. If a Sphynx is bred with a hairy breed, they will not produce Hairless kittens until the 3rd but most often the 4th generation if I recall correctly. Neutering/spaying is the most responsible way strengthen the breed unless proper steps are taken in registering as a breeder/cattery , HCM scanning breeding cats, and getting a mentor. If solid steps are not taken people are considered backyard breeders which only hurts this amazing breed and their health. @tommy212

Here are also reasons to spay/neuter Should I spay or neuter my sphynx cat?

I hope this did not come cross as accusatory. I am so happy you inquired as many members are not active members, but rather choose to read threads. You asking will no doubt answer the same question other have but did not ask.
