HELP HELP HELP I AM FREAKING OUT.

My boyfriend was home with both kitties today while I was in class all morning, when I came back home this afternoon I opened the door to get inside and closed it behind me and made my habitual trek to see my man and kitties. Bf was holding kitty number 1,Ditter, on his chest in the bedroom and told me Mars was running around the apartment. My other roommate left to go grocery shopping so she had to open and close the door again. I went to search for Mars playing in the apartment and couldnt find her nor a trace of her.

I have looked everywhere I can think of to find her inside but I still cant find her. The front door has only been opened and closed 2 times since she went "missing" and my roommate and I both did not see a kitty sprint beneath our feet when we used the door. We live on the second floor of an apartment complex with the hallway exposed to open air outside, so if she did sprint out the door at our feet we would have seen her in the hallway or take the steps to the main ground floor.

I am so so worried and freaking out because if she did sprint outside, it is winter time in Oregon and way too cold outside for her I am scared for her safety! I have searched everywhere in the apartment complex and vicinity near my house. I set up a blanket and wet food by the front door in case she is out there. I have knocked on the neighbors doors to check if they have seen her as well, and no luck.

I am praying that she is just hiding somewhere INSIDE I havent come across yet, please please bring my Mars home.

Anyone experience a similar situation and have tips, tricks, advice or what to do???

@naked is best , welcome to the lair -this fun friendly bunch will do all they can with tips and suggestions .
We have had a few missing kitties that were found hiding inside various odd places as well as escapees that were successfully found amd or caught using a cat trap

Sending a lair full of positive vibes you find your sweet girl Mars inside

Look everywhere - I even stood on the kitchen counter and reached up and found my missing cat sleeping on top of the kitchen cabinets hidden behind the crown molding edge second time missing for 24 hours
I found him inside - he had opend the sink base cabinet and crawled theu the dishwasher hole amd was stuck between the dishwasher amd sink base- I only found him by tapping on the cabinets and hearing a solid thump - he was queer as a mouse
He had scared me more times than I care to recall

I pray your Mars is sleeping inside somewhere- mine would totally ignore shaking his food treat jar or calling his name - just Snoozing away not a care in the world

Positve vibes Mars is snoozing inside somewhere

Will she respond to the sound of a can opener ? Shaking treat jar ?

Do you have a pic of Kars to share so we can all network

Many have had good results with safe returns with setting up a cat trap with food outside -
The sell them at some harbor freight type stores and maybe animal control may have one to lend you

Put out a familiar blanket with yours and her scent along with food like you did
Contact everyone , post pics , social media etc

If she is microchipped - contact the microchip company to make sure she is registered and they have your current address and phone number

Call local shelters amd local vets offices and email them a picture of Mars and leave your number
(Often times people will being found kitties to their own vet's office instead of shelters )

My heart goes out to you (((((hugs)))))))

Mars please be home !

Will be checking for updates frequently

This is my beautiful Mars girl. I have set up a station outside for her and am waiting for it to get dark here so I can go looking for her around the apartment complex at night with the flashlight. I am getting so worried it is so cold outside

I know what you are going thru. It happened to me. I eventually got my cat back a full week later.

I didn't know this at first but what happened was she got out on the balcony without me seeing her (when I opened the door for like 10 seconds; these guys are quick). I went out to run errands and came back about 2 hours later. By then she must have gotten tired of being on the balcony so she jumped off. It was only about 10 feet down. It's not the street though; it's the roof of the garage. Where I live we have 2 towers and there's garage parking in between so she was on that roof. My apartment was just one floor up from there hence she only jumped down 10 feet.

I didn't know any of this at the time. I thought she got out the front door so I was looking for her inside the building. Couldn't figure out how nobody saw her because it's all interior and you either take an elevator or go down the stairwell. The stairwell is closed so somebody would have had to have opened the stairwell doors for her or taken her down the elevator; it was just a mystery. After a couple of days of looking inside the building, I put a note under every door (240 total). Well lo and behold over the next few days there were 3 sightings and I was able to figure it out.

One person saw her on the deck on top of the garage. Then another person saw her there also and this guy said he tried to get her, but she ran in a hole in the wall. I put a flashlight in what looked like a drain hole and it turned out there was crawl space between the top of the garage and where the apartments start. She would go in the hole on one side and come out to the garage on a ledge that ran a couple of feet below the ceiling just around the edge of the wall. This was a huge help to know she was in the crawl space. I spent time in the garage just sitting on a chair to see if she would come out but nothing. I was starting to worry that she had jumped down from the ledge onto the floor of the garage so I also spent time walking around every nook and cranny of all 3 floors of garage. Nothing but cars and people.

Finally there was a 3rd sighting in a neighbor's balcony clear on the other side of the building. It sounded crazy but the guy was sure it was my cat from the picture I put under the doors. I walked around the building and I saw there was concrete molding that made a narrow ledge. My cat would have jumped on top of the retaining wall that runs around the garage, down to the ledge, and then walked around on the outside of the building (3 floors above concrete) to get to the other side and back. That's when I knew she was still living in the crawl space because if she would have jumped down to the garage floor she could not have been able to jump back up. This guy said she was on his balcony, and he went to get the phone to call me, and when he looked again she was gone. But from his balcony down it was 30 feet plus I figured she would have gone back the same way she came. I was sure she was still in the crawl space and it was a matter of her coming out so I could see her.

So that night I set up camp on the deck on top of the garage. I put some food out near several holes in the wall that I figured ran to the garage. Then I just waited. It was quiet. I was reading on my laptop to pass the time when I look up and I see my cat in front of a bowl of food I had put out. As soon as I moved she jumped back in the hole. I had only had her for about a month and it was dark. I was freaking out but then I saw she stuck her head out of the hole and looked at me. I moved very slowly and I called her. I got to about 10-15 feet and she started meowing. Then she walked towards me very slowly, still meowing, like she was unsure. When she got close enough I grabbed her and ran inside. She had lost weight but other than that she was fine.

I could not have found her without the neighbors that helped me figure out that she was on the property and living in the crawl space (that up until then I had no idea existed). Neighbors also reported other sightings and I followed some false leads but in the end I was able to put together the 3 leads that were valid. I feel very fortunate that she did not get off the property. Indoor cats are timid about just wondering off in parts unknown so that is one thing when you lose an indoor cat, they tend to not go too far. I think giving people a picture helped them to know exactly what to look for (it's the seal point sphynx in my avatar). I hope this helps.

If possible, put a blanket out for her along with some food. Cats that are lost in unfamiliar territory are scared and that's why they are hard to find. But they have a survival instinct so the blanket and the food should get her attention if indeed she is in the area.

Sensing positive vibes. Hope you find her soon.

Can you put a litterbox outside for the smell?
Maybe put a note on the frontdoor of the appartment to ask everybody to look around for a sphynx and to be careful when opening a door?
Cats who escape and be outside for the first time can get afraid and that makes they don't respond when their family calls for them. Try to go outside and call for Mars several times. Maybe put a box with a blanket that has her smell outside so she can hide in it?

All fingers and paws crossed you'll find her!

Oh and is it possible she crawled into a closet or something like that in your house?

Thank you for all the love and positive vibes and I am still in pieces right now over my Mars girl I still cannot find her. I’ve scoured my apartment for every obscure hiding place to no avail. Her older sister is still sound asleep since Mars went missing. I am so worried this is the worst feeling. Will be looking for her today as well

Make it possible for her to find you. If you know which door she got out from, she probably didn't go too far. She would be looking for a hiding spot so look around for where she may have gone to hide. That is probably her home base and she would only leave it for food. Put a blanket and some food where she can get to it. It's more likely she'll venture out of her hiding spot at night when it's quiet. If you can, sit where you can keep an eye out on the area but don't get too close which might scare her.

Oh and show your neighbors a picture, maybe post some flyers.

Update- it's a little over 24 hours and still no sign of my Mars girl :cry::cry::cry: No signs of her inside or outside. Last night her older sister slept cuddled in the bed with us all night which is unusual. We are still looking outside and have torn up this little apartment and I couldnt see or hear her :(( we are calling all vets and local shelters and putting up flyers.

It just makes no sense to me that she escaped outside, she wouldnt have gotten far with how cold it is outside and we began searching for her within 5 minutes of the front door (the only way outside) being opened and closed. The front leads right to the outside hallway of a 2nd floor apartment. We saw no trace of her the hours we searched yesterday and the hours last night with a flash light. However, we cannot find her in the house in over 24 hours and she has made no signs of being here, we figure she would eat, drink, or use the litter box at least. But there is no trace of her, it truly is like she has vanished and I am heart broken

I felt the same way. Maybe someone saw her and took her in - is she a trusting cat or would she run away from a stranger? Put flyers in case someone has her, and contact shelters and vets in case someone brings her in. Definitely leave some food and a blanket out because it's possible she's outside. It took me a week to find mine. She wouldn't let a stranger approach her. I feel for you and hope that you find her.

@naked is best , Checking in for updates
Sending continued Positive vibes

I would put out a trap - a few members got kitties back with the trap -
There the traps sold at lowes etc for wildlife

Any chance roommates had guests over who may have seen and or can confirm where they saw her last ? Or saw her get out ?

Comtinue to Double triple check indoors

** Check online ads too
In case she got out and someone may try to list her on Craigslist , hoobly etc
Hate to mention it but another avenue to explore

What city are you in Oregon ?
I can try helping look online too
There is a site lostmykitty.com too

@naked is best ,
When searching on line or posting be sure to check "sphynx" spelling different ways since it is often misspelled or search hairless cat , spinx , Sphinx , etc to get more results

No one saw her run outside and her last sighting was by my boyfriend of her in the apartment 5 minutes before my roommate and I returned that day. I am so sad no signs of her outside the house yet no signs of her inside as well, like no food gone, water, or used litter where is my precious kitty baby?!?:cry:

So sorry Mars is still lost.
Did you bang on everybody's door in the appartment to ask if they saw a sphynx? Or maybe took one in? Is she chipped?
Sending positive vibes. Please Mars find your way home.

Try Yoda Mom's idea of a cat trap. That way you can set it and leave it for several hours. Mars is probably waiting until everything is quiet to come out and you would just about have to spend all night outside in order to be there when she does. You can even set more than one cat trap or move it around, one night in one place, next night in another, etc. Cat traps are used to trap feral cats so this is a tried and true method.

Here are a couple of links.

Oh my gosh, how awful for you. My old cat went missing a few years back (full haired kitty though). She was missing for 11 days. I had given up hope, she then turned up a bit skinny. I had no idea where she’d been. I hope your kitty has a safe return. Xxx
