Hello, I recently adopted my first Sphynx from a family a couple of weeks ago. They were rehoming her because she had very bad allergies to certain foods but with a toddler they couldn't prevent her from eating anything they happened to drop, so this was the best decision for her.
Her neck had the worst of the allergic reaction, she was covered in bumps and scabs and scratching at it often, so I've been lathering her up in aloe vera (pet safe) daily and have gotten her a scarf to protect it from the scratching, as well as cut her nails, and it seems to be clearing up nicely.
But her tail is something else entirely.
There are large blackheads and bumps from base to tip, it seems very sensitive so she doesn't like me touching it but I have been trying to get aloe onto it as well, thinking some of the bumps might also be from the allergies.
I've ordered some pure witch Hazel to come so I can try that as well, but I'm not sure if it will help with the larger blackheads.
She's quite a dry cat (the aloe and coconut oil is helping with that) so I only plan on bathing her every 2 weeks, but is it worth me upping it to once a week to wash her tail? Are there any methods to clearing up acne like this?
I don't want to try to squeeze the blackheads out because I'm worried it'll hurt her, and as much as I'm willing to do that with my own skin, I know you shouldn't do it because it can cause scarring.
She's 6 years old and spayed, she also has an anal gland issue that means they need expressed every 3 months or so, if that could also be affecting her tail?
Any advice would be appreciated!
