Hi!
My sphynx has herpes and a watery eye because of it. A good breeder gave her to me that way. Other than that, no issues with her this far! I am about to get a new sphynx kitten. Aside from quarantining him for a week, is there any way I can help prevent him from also getting it? Or making sure he is healthy and his immune system is good when he meets her? Thanks guys

I’d talk to your vet at the kitten’s wellness check. Most contracts state you need one with 2-3 days of purchasing or your contract is voided and this would be a great topic to bring up. I don’t know of any way to really avoid the possibility of the new baby getting it. You are correct in that it very much about their immune system. Some cats can fight it off and be naturally immune etc. Hoping your vet can make suggestions. It might mean quarantining longer or until all shots are done etc. just so their system is built up more.

I know it is nerve wrecking…even great breeders are not free from herpes as some cats are simply carriers, it can lay latent in some forever etc. When you bring your baby to the vet, don’t forget the poop sample. It’s always best to know that is clear before introductions as well.

Congrats on expecting! @whatsupRT02
