Hibou(pronounced EE-BOO) is French for Owl. I was raised in a french household and spoke for many years as a child, as an adult I don't get to practice it much, so from time to time I forget how to say a certain word in French. One weekend last summer Greg and I were driving up north to visit with my family, we were talking about this and that, when he asked me how to say Owl in french, well try as I might I just couldn't remember. So that is when Greg decided it would be "Poulet de Nuit" which translate to Night Chicken or Chicken of the Night...well needless to say I knew that that wasn't right, but for some reason we laughed and giggled our heads off...shared it with the family (who are all french) and they thought it was hillarious, so Poulet de nuit was the joke all weekend long. My mother reminded me that the proper word for owl is hibou. Months later we would still laugh about it, so when it came time to name our kitten to be, the name Hibou just seemed perfect!
Her full registered name is Poulet De Nuit Hibou
And that is that, I think it was one of those jokes where you really had to be there to appreciate the full humor of the situation.:Smile
What a great story for her name! Thank you for sharing it, and thank you for putting up the pronounciation, that is not how I was saying it at all!! lol
I think it makes her that much more special to have a name that is meaningful to your family. Two of our cats are named by our 2 year old, Fubby (that's how he says fluffy) and Cooback (how he says tickle back when he wants his back tickled, lol)
