Berlin was very nearly named Vulva, but no one else seemed to think it was the perfect name for a hairless kitty.

:BigSmile:Well, Yoda is the first sphynx in my life and did know so little about this breed at that time. But I was impressed that he already went on CNN show with Anderson Cooper and is so special! My son and I decide that Jedi Yoda will suits him!

Akali's original name is Malta and I didnt like that at all, so we chose her name from a video game :) She comes off the game league of legends and her character's name "Akali" is a ninja assassin that I play

My two rescues, Samson and Zeus, came with their names...since they are both older boys, I didn't want to change them because they were used to the names they had. My other Sphynx boy Georgio, is named after Curious George. Call me crazy, but the name of a curious, mischievous, monkey just seemed to fit.

Our Bengal is Loki the Lion Hearted...he truly is the god of mischief

My boy Sphynx is Babas (pronounced Babiss)We named him after our neighbors the Baba's. They are retired and like our friend Joel, he is bald, wrinkly and light eyes...but most importantly the sweetest people. They cried when we told them what we named our little one.

My girl Sphynx is leeloo. We named her that from the movie the 5th Element...she is truly a supreme being! We even spell her name in lower case like the character did. For those of you who do not know, it was a Bruce Willis film about a supreme being who comes to save the human race. When we rescued her, her name was Sueshe...yes the woman couldn't even spell sushi right...lol, so we had to change her name.

We named out little man Yoda....
After i went and visited him the first time, my hubby called to see how he was and asked what he looked like the easiest way i could describe him was like a little Yoda. He then announced "well that way easy! I guess that's his name then"
It's also a easy name for my lil one to say... she's only 15 months old

Kalbo my new little man. His name means baldy in Tagalog.

Has a ring to it, but it may be mostly the crinkle of the treat bag that brings him running.
There are also numerous nicknames since all that sees him wants to come up
with their own unique name. I take it as a compliment since he gets a lot of attention!

Very enjoyable thread!

Nice poem. My Sphynx was named by the breeder. He was 8 1/2 months old when I got him, so I kept his name, Boone. I wouldn't change it for anything.

I don't remember how exactly I came up with Ming. I remember doing research on hairless cats and I told my husband "I'm going to get a Sphynx and name is Ming". I also remember him laughing and saying something along the lines of "You do that". He thought I was kidding, but I was serious!

Pharaoh was named by his breeder, I liked the name so it stayed. When I wanted to get Amen-Ra, I decided to have another Egyptian name so I looked up male Egyptian names online and chose that one.

With Ziggy we had picked out two different names (Orion because I was trying for a regal sky name and Ziggy 'cause hubby likes David Bowie) and then spoke with the breeder about the names and she said Ziggy fit his personality better and she was right.

Same has happened with Gizzy. We had a couple of names picked out, one of them being Gizmo because hubby looked at his picture and said he looks like a gremlin. Again we talked to the breeder and she said Gizmo is a better fit.

Non-Sphynx:
Coal - his tail looked like a charcoal briquet when we found him.
Obi - I'm a Star Wars fan, but didn't like the female names so our little girl got Obi.
Starsky - also a Starsky & Hutch fan (original).
Squeaks - is deaf and mute and squeaks if she really tries.
Ichi - has one eye and ichi is Japanese for one - which fit because we also like Japanese samurai movies and the Zatoichi series with a blind swordsman.
Ash - he had a name from being shown but we didn't like it. Even though he was 6, we changed it. Since his blue points look gray, we chose Ash - which also worked with our being fans of the Evil Dead movies and Bruce Campbell's character Ash.
