Pharaoh came with his name. I liked it, so I kept it.
When I got Amen-Ra, I wanted to have an Egyptian name to match Pharaoh. He was almost called Tau or Osiris but I liked how Amen-Ra sounded and liked that he was the god of the universe.
When Amen-Ra passed and I got Vega, I decided not to keep doing Egyptian names. I didn't want to name him after Amen-Ra, but wanted a name which would have a hint of him in it as I do believe that he chose him for me. My boyfriend and I would say that Amen-Ra was the biggest and brightest star in the sky. I googled which star actually was the biggest and brightest star in the sky and it has one of those crazy r2d2 names that only mean something to astronomers. I then looked at the biggest brightest stars on the human visibility spectrum. Number one is the Sun (Ra!) but I saw Vega on the list and liked that as a name. Bonus: Vic Vega is the name of Mr. Blonde of the Reservoir Dogs
My advisor is college was Linda Vega. She said she married her husband because his surname was so awesome!!
Actually, the real story is that she had gotten one of his used textbooks in college, seen his name written inside and thought, "that is such a cool last name--I'm marrying that kid." She eventually ended up meeting him randomly at a party and, well, her prophecy came true! How funny, right?
