I use Coconut Oil on Snuffie when giving her a bath. I have been storing it above my sink in the bread box that I use as her cabinet for cleaning supplies and such. (we dont eat bread) Anyhow, I gave snuffie a bath tonight and opened the jar and it was pure liquid, it has been solid up until now. Our house has been getting hot finally!!! yay! Anyhow - how do you store your coconut oil? I prefer solid as its easier to scoop out a bit and rub her down but it doesn't really say I can refrigerate and I don't think Snuffie would appreciate the ice cold rub downs prior to bathtime!:LOL:Thanks for your input!!

I would prefer mine to be more liquid---you can keep it in the fridge then zap it for a few secs in the microwave to soften it up and make it slightly warmer. I store mine at room temperature.

Maybe I'll put it in a empty dawn bottle so I can just squirt it out then. I can go with liquid, its just not ideal in the tub that its currently in. lol

Im not a coconut oil pro, but i have read in a few articles about it that you should not microwave it but to heat up a pot of water and warm the bottle or container that way. I have no clue why by the way. You can also refrigerate coconut oil you dont have to because it has a very good shelf life. Hope this helps!

Thanks admin. I'm sure you can't microwave it because it would "pop" and "spit" as any oil does I would think. I don't know - I'm not gonna experiment to find out. I'm just gonna use it in a squirty bottle during the summers. lol

coconut oil, generally, is sold for eating/cooking. you can store it room temperature for ages, it just might go a little stale tasting, but that's not an issue for cleaning dirty little paws!

I store mine in the fridge, and then rub a scoop i my hands to warm it up and it melts to liquid in just a few seconds.

i found this reusable tube dispenser online

Coghlan's Squeeze Tubes - Package of 2 at REI.com

the end opens so its easier to fill and then you roll it up to dispense. Its meant for camping but maybe you could find it at a sporting goods store.

Or if you switch to liquid, put it in a pump bottle. lol i get the pump bottle sampoo cause im clumsy and ive broken nails and hurt my fingers when i had soap in my eyes (i have LONG hair so sometimes i need extra squirt lol) plus ive dropped bottles in the shower and bruised my foot. yes im THAT clumsy.

my friends make fun of me for being overly cautious and having a contigency plan alllll the time but maybe i should introduce them to the rest of my family. My brother and sister both got the skinny gene and have both broken their tailbones lol. my sister sat in her office chair at work and it rolled away and she fell on a concrete floor. i forget how my brother broke his. my dad was playing in a house being built in the 1930s lol and fell from the attic straight into the basement 3 stories below head first, i have seen him with gushing cuts and he had NO idea how it happened. i end up with random bruises and dont recall how i got them, ive been thrown from a horse and slid headfirst on my back on crushed limestone, and i hurt my back at 18 when the dishwasher rack gave way. ive pulled my metatarsals TWICE in my life. once at 12 and once at 28 stepping over stuff. my brother passed out from an asthma attack in his papa johns when he was closing one night and hit his head on the oven and tile floor and was out for about 10 minutes... he thinks lol.

so yeah we are CLUMSY. and my brothers poor skinny awkward 7 year old daughter is following right along with that.

lol np - I'm the same way - I've shut my fingers in car doors, broken my tail bone, spraigned both ankles, once at 8 mths pregnant, thats no fun, just got over a sprainged ankle actually, well we think I broke it but being laid off and without insurance I refused to go to the Dr so now it snaps funny when I walk and my ankle bone isn't so girly anymore, broken collar bones, nose, ribs, toes, fingers, you name it, i've been through it.....and all of them happened when I was roller skating or running around like a crazy person and not paying attention. lol

did i mention i sprained the metatarsals in BOTH feet at the same time ...twice? lol

first time i was 12 and pacing in the driveway in the dark after catholic school. my dress shoes were slick on the bottom from playing in the parking lot at recess and i stepped between my parents two cars bumpers and the ground was alot closer than i thought.

the second time was 4th of july 2008 and my brothers back door is weird. it goes up 3 inches, 3 feet across and then drops 2 inches inside the house. once again the ground was closer than anticipated and i rolled both ankles , resprained everything annnd i had an interview in a week lol. i had to wear flip flops my feet were so swollen and i took codine so i could make it thru the interview lol

lol have you stopped rollerskating?

Yes - haven't been in many years! The roller rink in the town I live in now burned down and they never rebuilt so my roller skating days are over. I still have my roller blades tho and i've been known to break those out for a try every so often. lol
