I'm 11 and my mom said I can get a sphynx kitten if I raise 700$ which is half the price of the kittens in the breeder we've found. I also have to pay for half the supplies (the cat is 1200$ so the extra hundred is my part of supplies.) but I'm running out of ways to make money!:banghead: My goal is to get the cat by Christmas this year. Also I live in Canada ! Because people seem to like know this lol. :happy:I babysit the neighbors kids under supervision because I'm not old enough to babysit by myself until October. But I only make 5$ each time I do and I only do it every 2 weeks because that's when their mom needs me. I don't get payed to babysit my brother though, and my allowance is 11$ a week but if I forget my chores or don't do what I'm told I don't get my allowance at all:sour:. Even if I got my allowance every day from now until Christmas I wouldn't have enough. :cry:There aren't many people in my neighbourhood that I could help out because they are all kind of grumpy and don't like kids much. :cry:I could do lemonade stands in summer break but those don't make much money, :shifty:and I will ask for birthday money and perhaps even money for Christmas if I'm a bit short, but I'm worried that I won't have enough! :arghh:please help me with suggestions and maybe help me out please, I also need to know anything you can tell me about the proper care of sphynxes because I have to prove myself! Thanks!:)

WELCOME to the Lair @sphynkles

Where in Canada do you live?

I suggest offering a doggy poo pick up service if you can handle picking up dog poo! =)

There are many threads on here that can give you a ton of info for proper care!

Sorry - I dont mean to sound creepy when I asked where you live! Just thought if you lived in Edmonton that would be kind of cool
as that is where I am from!
& If by chance you lived in Edmonton and it was okay with your parents of course - I would say if with your parents permission and meeting them/yourself that you could meet my boys Pete (He is 1.5 yrs old and Phil is 4 months old) and you can see what bath day looks like, nail cleaning/cutting, ear cleaning, ETC ETC

I live in Langley. In British Columbia but I have family in Edmonton. :) also thanks for the advice. But not many people in my neighbourhood have dogs either. Except my friends, and they wouldn't pay me to do that

I asked my friend who was advertising dog walking in my neighborhood but she said she only got two people and that wasn't going to be enough money for me.

Aww! Well if your parents were willing to drive you maybe they could help post an ad on Kijiji for poo removal services!

Have you asked if you can keep the recycle (bottles/cans) and put it towards your Sphynx fund?! That would help add some money
to the piggy bank!

What about a flyer route? The laws may be different in BC but I know when I was your age (I am now 26) with parental consent I was able to do a flyer route, I think I made $50 bucks every two weeks.

Yeah, I think the bottle thing is worth a try, and I am thinking of doing the paper rout in the summer break but I'm not sure, also I have guinea pigs, would they be a problem? And I have a dog.

Nope not at all, you just will have to slowly introduce the Sphynx to your dog, and I believe Guinea Pigs are in cages right? So that wouldn't be an issue I dont think!

What about asking your family to host a garage sale in the summer and you can sell old toys or things you no longer use any more and you can add those funds to the Sphynx Fund!

Depending on your parents - the paper route thing you could do even during the school week as I know when I did it when I was 11 I only had to go out once a week - every two weeks to do my delivery route but just need to make sure it wouldnt effect your schooling/ day to day extra curricular activites of course!

What about lawn mowing? - with supervision of course!

lawn mowing could work but I've never mowed a lawn before. And I do like that garage sale idea. But we live in a quiet area, the last garage sale we did didn't get many people or much money. my little neighborhood is a pain in the butt!

No worries!

Maybe to get more people to come check out the garage sale you can get some balloons and make a bunch of signs and even post on Kijiji about the garage sale!

Welcome to sphynxlair!
You're already showing you'll be a great sphynxmommy by trying to do all you can to save enough money for a sphynx. Your parents must be proud of you!

Do the people in your street have cars? Maybe you can wash their cars? Or do others little things for them?

But don't forget to also have fun and play with other kids or do others things you like to do!

If you are 11, you can take the red cross babysitting course. I took it at 11 I'm pretty sure.
You could make cards to sell. Get your mom to post on a local Facebook sell page. You can do any sort of creative things! I'll look through Pinterest for ideas of other stuff and I'll post again!
You have to be 12 to get an actual job in Canada, sadly.
You could now lawns (not sure how big you are) but if you have acess to a push mower that could work, then you just rack up the leafs.
Have neighbours with dogs? You could poop scoop
Painting fences?

Uhm a girl I know did those tie fleece blankets and sold those at farmers markets. But a table cost you money. Again a face book buy and sell might be best.

I'll keep thinking!

  • Bottle drive
  • Tutor (you could help younger kids with multiplication tables. I tutored from grade seven to 12, I got 20$ an hour for it. I was generally three years older than the kid and worked one on one with a kid for an hour. I just did this at the library. You could teach reading too. I tutored weekly and just set myself up in the library)
  • Maybe a business can pay you to advertise? Like sign turn on the side of the road kinda thing. Like on the sidewalk obviously lol
  • Obviously make sure you go all your chores. Show responsibly. Maybe you could get an allowance increase if you took on more chores, but you need to show you can do what is expected first. You could ask for an increase that isn't paid out, just counts against the $700
  • Checkout 51 and craddle are coupon sites apps your mom could use. If she buys things that are on the app that week, you scan the recipt to get the money back. You can get a check once you reach 20$. They work in Canada. Better stuff on Checkout 51 I think. So if you buy the stuff all ready it's great!
  • Car wash
  • Run a scavenger hunt at a local park. Charge $2 a kid or something and pick up a little prize for the winner. Again get your mom to use Facebook to get the word out and limit it to a certain amount of kids.
  • Gold caddie maybe? Depends on if you have a golf course and age requirements
  • Cleaning
  • Teaching old people how to use a computer/tablet. Again can be done at the library
  • Don't do gofundme or stuff like that, they take part of the money. Better to earn it too ;) lol gifts are ok like Christmas and what not that's different
  • Clean the inside of cars
  • What if you took kids to the park for $10 for an hour, $2 for each extra kid. After you get your babysitting of course
  • Weeding lawns.
  • Langley has farm land around it doesn't it? Only been through it a few times. Maybe they need a farm hand. I don't think farms apply to the 12+ rule
  • Camper cleaner
  • Wash decks
  • Purge your toys/book/clothes. Ow don't go crazy, but if your parents are fine you could sell somethings you don't use anymore and aren't going to be handed down to siblinings/friends. Again your mom could post on Facebook sell groups or kijiji and that stuff. I'm part of a Facebook page and that's how I get Astrid's toy fund lol just getting rid of stuff I don't use anymore and cat find a home for.
  • Run a painting class in your back yard if you're artsy. Dollarama has great canvas and paint actually! Brushes, eh not so much. You could change 10-15 a person (make sure you make atleast 50%+ profit after you pay supplies) and run a class! Doesn't have to be a difficult pierce: just some for summer!
  • If you have a scanner you could use, you could scan people's photos for them and put them on a USB
  • Lol a "mom assistant" aka mom slave Like babysitting but while the mom is home kinda thing. Essentially you pick things you're ok with doing (cleaning, playing, whatever) and do it like babysitting. I've done the babysitting part while parents were home: usually they were working from home.
  • Langley might have a kid craft farmers market thing. I know comox did. It's an only kids craft fair to sell stuff maybe you guys have one!

Well there's some! Now you just need to get a big jar to lock the money in lol

Just remember with whatever you are doing, you really are showing your parents how responsible you are. The responsibility you are showing is proof you can take care of a kitty. So, be respectful and go above and beyond what you're asked to do at home :p offer to do things that normally aren't your chores, and not expect payment. Lol and of course have fun!!! You'll get that money! I'm sure of it.

I volunteer at a cat shelter and there are several things they do for money! We just had a bake sale and plant sale, in July we are having a garage sale (everyone is donating a few things). We also sold calendars with pictures of some of the kitties and have Yankee candle sales in the fall (40% of the profits go to the shelter which isn't bad) good luck!

Lots of great suggestions have been given as well as support. Just keep in mind it is not just being able to afford getting one, it is a big commitment and health/wellness care is something that is also not cheap. Be 100% sure you and your parents have a plan in place for financially caring for a baby once you get one. Many recommend getting pet insurance. Good luck on your journey. You are a youngster on a mission and hopefully one day will be an ambassador of the breed.

Well since you have half a year, you'd have to double it each day. Doesn't make it seem all that crazy! (Obviously you can't use pennies lol)
