It’s another. Our youngest furbaby, 8 months, has just gone into her first heat. Believe me, this wasn’t intentional, but we can’t change what’s happened, so we deal with it. Fortunately, she’s quiet about her talking, even now. I’v e got a couple of questions, though. Can cats be spayed while they’re in heat or do we need to wait it out? How can we help her be more comfy? Right now she’s acting like she feels like I used to feel on my periods and I had PCOS! Ironically, my daughter, who inherited the PCOS from me, started her period today so I have a miserable daughter and a miserable kitty!

From what I understand there is greater risk involved if spayed when in heat. I’d call your vet and set up a surgery date assuming when she will not be in heat. Just be extra careful she does not slip out of the house and get pregnant.

I know with dogs it’s best to wait after heat cycle and then some due to possible complications as everything is engorged. Bet to call vet nd they can guide you on when safe to schedule spay date.

Awwwwww, thanks for the hugs! We’re doing pretty well for now, actually! We survived Mika’s first, and hopefully only, heat. It wasn’t nearly as bad as we were expecting. She was vocal, but it was an absolutely adorable little cross between a purr and a mew and we’re wishing we had gotten a video of her! So while it was a bit of an annoyance, it was also very cute. Now we need to find a vet who won’t charge us over $900 so we can have her spayed!
I finally finished my first larger diamond painting project and I’m working on some coffee gnome coasters before getting involved in another major project. I’ve got a lot of things to do to get the craft room cleared out so my son can move back home in January. His roommate isn’t too keen on finding another person to help share the cost of rent and utilities and with the cost of living going up the way it is, he’s struggling to make ends meet. He has managed to pay off his car, though, and that’s a huge accomplishment.
My husband and I took the RV out this past weekend. We didn’t go far, just to Apache Flats on the Army fort here. It was so nice being out there with just the two of us and Kenzie. We really needed that break and it was fun watching the wild turkeys roaming around.
I did manage to break a molar, the very last one!, a while back, and the sharp edge caused a very painful sore on my tongue. We’ve got a great dentist, though. Got me in and got it fixed pretty quick. Just have to get the appointment scheduled to put the permanent crown on. How do you break a molar??

@LadyAred , Thank you for keeping us updated! whow. you are talented. and such sweet photos.! I bet it felt great to get out in the RV.. .ah!!! wonderful.
ouch sorry about the molar. yup been therer. glad you got fixed asap.

as for spaying, I have contacted local shelters and inquired about info on low cost spay neuter clinics. I have googled low cost spay neuter clinics in my area too and called to confirm no Ketamine.

** one on their lists was actually a vet I go to, and it was discounted tremendously by just having the low cost spay clinic make the appointment, ( I called the low cost spay coordinator and requested a certain date it worked out, . they made the call. I confirmed NO Ketamine anesthesia with the vet doing the surgery. she spayed my Yoda(avatar photo) with no problems.** I could not believe it was a vet I went to in the past with my pups! he does the low cost spay neuter on the side to help animals.

the other low costs spay /neuters like a local shelter I called used ketamine :(.

keep us updated !!!

No ketamine? I know it’s commonly used in veterinary medicine and it’s becoming quite a common painkiller in the UK emergency rooms. I guess I need to do my homework on ketamine.

@LadyAred , copying from your other post question about ketamine.. catzzzmeow wrote:

Ketamine can be fatal if there is an underlying/unknown heart condition and unfortunately this breed is now seen as having more heart issues. So avoiding Ketamine is suggested. So it is sort of a breed thing, but there are several other breeds as well with more heart concerns. My vet uses propofol. I remind my vet every time they have been spayed or neutered. @LadyAred
Many vets don’t even use Ketamine these days. You can call your veterinary hospital and ask what anesthesia they use and you can read up on it before you have the procedure done.

Awwwwww, thanks Yoda mom! I’m not too bad. Just fighting the constant exhaustion and the Fibro pain mostly. The occasional migraine as well. Human and furry family are all doing really well. It’s hard to believe our baby Mika is 1yr old already! And Kenzie will be 6 in June! My babies grow up too fast!
My daughter has picked up crochet again and this time everything has just clicked. She’s just going crazy making things and experimenting! I’m just thrilled because she makes stuff for me! She’s considering making things to sell as we get closer to Christmas. Think she could do well…
