Hi friends :)
We have been through endless vet visits for skin issues. Treatment started with 4 separate steroid courses of various type and formulation. All provided temporary relief but clearly this is not a preferable longterm medication (nor are any of the other immunosuppressive medications due to side-effect profiles). Then we did two separate Food Trials with Hydrolyzed Royal Canin and Hills/Blue Buffalo. They were strict and for all intents and purposes I believe we conducted the trials to near perfection. So now we are onto desensitization therapy. It was recommended to use ILIT which involves 6 monthly direct injections into the lymph nodes behind the knees. The theory is more direct uptake into the immune system with this delivery. It is "newer" but has some data behind it mostly building off what is known prior regarding allergy specific immunotherapy. I contacted a separate dermatologist (article attached) who is one of the leading voices published on this approach and she responded with encouragement. Anyway, I was told to expect MORE itching as the therapy begins from our dermatologist. Sasha has mostly been stable with one episode so far of attacking her neck and lips (this is her problem area) but she also had larger bumps form that burst into craters (as pictured). She has had these in the past but usually 1-2 at a time. Now she has 5-6 and the diameter seems slightly larger. Dermatologist says keep them clean with her regular shampoo (DUOXO). I could post past (year old or more) pictures of her skin issues. One troubling episode persisted for a long time which had her with tiny bumps everywhere and loss of fuzz (she looked spotted) in terms of her skin coat. We have tried everything so I have resorted to ILIT seeking relief for us. The vet is saying to go to weekly oral drops or injections (sublingual or subcutaneous) for 1-2 years after this six month loading period before calling it therapeutic failure. Im not sure I will put her through that to completion if no notable improvement is visible. I plan to update the vet who wrote the article for advice at that time. While we are staying positive we get relief or even a cure from this, we know we are just starting out. Here are some pictures and info. I can answer all related questions and provide Vet notes or more pictures if needed from any point in her life.
I do want to research and try the carnivore diet if this does not work (I am on this eating regimen myself and see the first hand miracles in myself and others). This makes the most sense to me outside of trying ILIT. Felines are natural carnivores not meant to eat mass produced processed food (just like us). Most, if not all skin disease in humans has been directly linked to inflammation. Sadly the intake of allergens generally in the form of "food" is the cause of the disruption.
Thank you all for any help and support.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. You are doing a phenomenal job though. I'm curious to see how well this treatment works for you and I hope it's a cure.

Sasha had her 2nd of 6 induction injections yesterday and they doubled the dose from 0.1mL to 0.2mL. She seems to be doing the same outside of a reemergence of the white spotting. She had this spotting in the past as well. She looses her seal point fuzz in these select areas but at this time has no underlying pimples in these spots. I know this has occurred in other sphynx. Can anyone comment, guide or help us?

Is Sasha an only cat?

One of ours has changes in pigmentation sometimes, he’s quite healthy it’s just his coat - he’s always changed like that since a kitten - he does occasionally get red spots like that but I take it is from our other cats and rough play.

That’s why I wonder if there are any other cats/animals in the home.

Hi @VolkoSimone , She has been an only cat since August 2023. Prior she had a brother who was a tuxedo male and well cared for with no known issues.
I look forward to getting her another brother in 2025. I don't like when she is home alone and I don't think she does either. No other animals here either. I use to think the scratches/scabs she had around her neck were from him wrestling but I now since have learned they were Sasha itching her own neck... Is there any advice for pairing with certain breeds or ages? I was thinking of a younger, healthy rescue cat to alleviate the shelter burden when it's time. She needs a friendly brother to match her energy.

@SashaLove , awh. hugs n head smooches. bless you for considering to adopt a friend for Sasha. we do have single sphynx households . Several of us have adopted from members. I have all adoptees (sphynx, bengal and blackcat furbaby. When interviewing, can ask about personalities, outgoing , introverted etc. I have adopted males/and females. slow intros and all good. I found the boys more chill and settled in sooner. My girls I found more prissy priss :)
looking forward to updates. don't hesitate to start an adoption thread when you and Sasha are ready.

Did you find any solution to this situation my kitty has been struggling with very similar looking pale spots and fur loss. I thought first it was just the summer but having had issues with her being itchy and seeing your post I'm worried it may be similar.

Hi!
Thanks for asking. Sasha turned 3 on April 6th [ARIES]. {=
I've been absent from this forum for a while but I still love it. Sasha completed her initiation phase of her custom allergy serum. This was 6 total subcutaneous injections given between her shoulder blades monthly for 1/2 year (which just ended on April 4th). The volume was always 0.2mL or 0.4mL, It was painless because the local dermatologist works in a well established (human) hospital in the area with a great facility. We were able to get in and out of her appointments generally within 30min/ usually sooner which helps the stress level. I never noticed any adverse events during this phase in terms of N/V/D, changes in sleep/appetite etc.. The one "side-effect" is increased itching. Because you are introducing the allergens in a concentrated manner this is to be expected. She did have a couple stretches where it bothered her more than others and I had to help distract and divert her attention when possible. Of course I kept everything clean and also bathed her weekly during this phase with a full spa day each time (one of her allergens in the yeast that naturally resides on the nail-bed, so she is literally scratching that allergen onto herself [this is not uncommon].. Sasha continued to be lively per normal. I utilized Chlorhexadine wipes on irritated areas and if she really scratched bad in a spot I would use a cottonball with peroxide. I found a vitamin-E (non-EtOH) wipe as well to refresh her problem areas daily. I washed her with DUOXO shampoo (the orange bottle) and a Konjac sponge (which are very soft). I stay clear of anything skin irritating that has perfumes, scents, oils etc/ wash blankets and try to keep the space dust and pollen free. Up to this point her (white acne bumps and larger red craters had almost completely subsided), the white bumps and with them (missing fuzz spots) did not come back and she only gets one or two small red craters now and then but its decreased in size and frequency alot. I had a choice to stop, go to a daily sublingual oral drop, or a weekly sub-q injection. I choose the injection and started that April 14th at 0.4mL/ I don't like giving her the shot but I vaccinate 3-100+ year olds at my job so it is not terrible. She tolerates it and it was going well until May 13th when I gave her the 5th at home injection. I came home and my roomate (mostly out of touch) said she threw-up downstairs. She normally doesn't come downstairs unless I am home. Everyday (110%) of the time she is waiting in the window for me to get home and starts meowing with intense excitement as I get out of my car then she flys down the steps screaming louder as she greets me at the door with joy and love. She sounds like a small fire-engine it's awesome. It really is the most special thing in my life. The day I got in and she was not in the window (happens rarely if she is napping/even then she wakes as I come in the door and starts to fly downstairs) when I heard she vomitted I went up the stairs to immediately see her and she had just made her way to the top and slowly came down about 1/3rd of the way to greet me in silence. She had squinty eyes and was clearly weak. I was terrified of course. I then noticed she had thrown up in two spots in our room as well. I comforted her and checked her breathing rate/strength to access if a hospital visit was needed. Scanning the house quickly for anything she could have potentially got into that may have caused her harm but found nothing. I noticed what I thought was an electrical smell in our room and the ceiling fan had burnt out. It was not super potent or prevalent but I could smell it and the burnt out fan was definitive. I started to think it could be possible that she was breathing that in while sleeping and it made her sick but I am unsure as the window was open. I sat with my hand on/off her for 5 hours while she rested observing her breathing. I wrestled with taking her to the ER for the first hour or so but settled on observation. She woke up, with more strength and we both felt better. She has been 100% since thank God. The doctor said to continue therapy and reduce the dose back to 0.2mL/ at 1st I wanted to stop treatment as the results were "good enough" and I was doing a risk/reward calculation on whether to continue. The original plan was unless she is "100% or close" at 6 months to continue for another 3, revaluate then do 3 more for a total of 1 year. The logic here is she has "environmental" allergies and we were not in peak allergy season. I was fearful she would have battled through all this therapy and then not completed to gain full immunity or benefit. So we pressed on and she received her 1st shot since that event on May 13th with no issue and the ceiling fan was replaced. We will continue as planned unless given and good or bad reason not to. I will NOT continue this beyond 1 year regardless. The plus side is on valentines day I gave her non-RX food for the 1st time in a long time and she was ecstatic. It was determined in this process through 2 separate strict RX-food trials that she does not have a food allergy causing her itching. They still wanted me to continue that diet so I did for a while but stopped as it's not logical anymore at this stage. I still give her the RX dry food as of today (but I will be replacing that soon too) but I no longer give her the RX-wet, both types she did not like. She is healthy and happy and well loved. I have her outside again now that it's warm and she likes greeting the people and dogs as they walk by, chasing birds, bunnies and squirrels. She is quite popular in the neighborhood and people come to see her as they walk about. She is constantly told how beautiful she is and what pretty eyes she has. I exercise her daily for a minimum of 30min to keep her strong. :giggle:

Hi everyone, I hope this thread/journey has provided some insight into "allergy-shots" should your Sphynx ever need them... Sasha is thriving. We last saw her dermatologist at the 9 month mark and found out she is leaving the state to start her own practice and wanted to transfer Sashas care should we choose to continue. I planned to commit to one full year once we passed the 6-month mark so she could see therapy through all 4-seasons as it was determined through elimination and testing that Sash has environmental allergies. However, I'd been consulting with another Dermatologist via email who I found when researching information about ILIT (she had published a scientific article) and decided to ask her thoughts based on the current status. Combined with her departing dermatologist I learned that some Sphynx relapse and some do not. Some take ongoing shots or oral drops for life depending on the patient. I made the decision to stop therapy as we were very grateful for it's proven success and Sash has been through alot with regards to it all. It's been 3.5 months and there has only been small, occasional scratching around her neck, and near zero acne. As a whole I would say the frequency decreased by ~95% and the severity ~98%. We are truly grateful to God for healing her and restoring the integrity of her skin. If anyone has any questions about prescription food, food-trials, allergy meds, or allergy-shots I can likely answer them or provide resources for you... Sasha thanks you for your love and support.
